Born in the Netherlands, raised in New Zealand, Malvae a.k.a Jim van der Breggen is the 25-year-old behind the project. Creating his music from samples he records around the world, his debut release with Lost Tribe Records in early 2017 proved to be an online sensation, “Haunts Me (feat. Esther Veen)” a melting pot of moody electronica, hard-hitting bass and a vast array of original found sounds from as far away as Indonesia, reached Nr.17 in the viral 50 Charts USA on Spotify. Malvae returned to Lost Tribe with his hotly anticipated “Forward EP”. Flecked with his field recordings coupled with muscular bass and atmospheric synth textures. In May this year he released his new single “How It Hurts” with Cloudkid. Composed entirely of sounds from his mouth. He modulates them into a dense, forward-thinking electronic sound with thrilling tempo switches, all complemented by Esther Veen’s ethereal vocals.
