About Air This Side of Caution

The eyes are the window to the soul: Music is the door.

Like any strand of DNA, mutation is part of the course of human history. These are reactions that transform our cells, our appearance, and our souls. Mutations have yielded bizarre outcomes such as the elephant man and also have resulted in characteristics that have helped our species survive and thrive throughout its history.

One of these mutations has recently been discovered in a band called Air this Side of Caution. In parts of the EGBDF and the FACE genes, this band creates shifts in molecular and chromosomal structure. Their heritage consists of influences such as: Radiohead, Sunny Day Real Estate, Pink Floyd, and Jeff Buckley. With another step toward enlightenment, a new expression of mature and creative musicianship has burst onto the Chicago music scene.

In 2001 the band emerged merely larva with soothing and careening sounds coursing through open airwaves. JohnRaine, JKid, Dan, and Lucas are all equal parts of the organism, and together they search for musical satisfaction and energetic reception. The band released their debut album, The Unbearable Lightness of Being in 2002. Through further stages of development they were able to deliver their EP Things Just Fall Apart in 2005.

ATSoC is most closely associated with the Indie Rock genre. The sound they produce is rapidly morphing the musical landscape of Chicago. Recently, they have played alongside OK GO, DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill, Galactic, The Webb Brothers, and Assassins, as well as such notables as Bon Jovi and Jon Mellencamp.

The band is currently pregnant with their next album, Nature Will Turn On Us. Set to be released November 18th at Martyrs’ in Chicago, the record carries the listener along with the band on the journey to the next step of musical evolution. Find out more about ATSOC and download their debut music video, Here We Go, at www.airthissideofcaution.com.
