About Turbulence (Jamaica)

Turbulence, born Sheldon Campbell on January 11, 1980, in Kingston, Jamaica, is an accomplished reggae artist known for his conscious lyrics and powerful delivery. Growing up in Kingston, he saw the very harsh realities of poverty and violence from an early age. Putting these challenges aside, music provided an escape and a form of expression for him.

Inspiration and style
Turbulence’s journey into music began in his teenage years when he started performing at local talent shows and events. Inspired by the sounds of Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, and Burning Spear, he developed his unique style mixing roots reggae with elements of dancehall and spirituality.

In the late 1990s, Turbulence caught the attention of veteran producer Philip “Fatis” Burrell, founder of the renowned Xterminator record label. Burrell recognised Turbulence’s talent and offered him a recording contract. This collaboration resulted in Turbulence’s debut album, “Different Thing,” released in 2000, which turned heads and established him as a rising star in reggae.

Throughout the early 2000s, Turbulence continued to release hit singles and albums, including “Notorious – The Album” (2003) and “United States of Africa” (2006), which further set his reputation as a conscious reggae artist with a global appeal.

Character and themes
Turbulence’s music is characterised by his distinctive vocal delivery, powerful melodies, and socially conscious lyrics. His music often addresses poverty, injustice, spirituality, and love, drawing inspiration from his personal life and observations of the world. His songs resonate with audiences on a world scale, moving past cultural and language barriers.

International Success
Turbulence’s talent and dedication to his craft have earned him widespread acclaim and recognition on the international stage. He has toured a lot in Europe, North America, Africa, and the Caribbean, performing at major festivals and venues alongside some of the biggest names in reggae. Turbulence is often featured here on Pauzeradio in the radio shows that Gav Pauze creates, which is a testament to the quality and consistency of the singer’s works.

Collaborations with reggae legends like Anthony B, Luciano, and Sizzla, among many others, expanded his reach and earned him his position as an astounding artist.

Giving back
Even though he’s been successful, Turbulence remains grounded and he has been committed to giving back to his community. He supports a variety of charities that uplift the youth and help to bring positive change through music and education.

Legacy and influence
Turbulence’s impact on reggae music is evident. His conscious lyrics, powerful vocals and consistency have helped to inspire many artists and fans around the world, earning him his place among the greats of reggae.
