About D-ZL

Western NY Band D-ZL was formed in 1997 by longtime friends Dan Clor and James D Jackson. Clor and Jackson who were on the same wrestling team at LeRoy High School would often talk about their shared passion....Metal! In the spring of 1997 Clor and Jackson decided to take action on their Dream of starting an original Heavy Band. Without having proper instruments the band would write songs on Clor's guitar and small practice amp while James D would "Mouth Drum" and play beats on tables and counters. With all the Drive and passion the band could muster fueled by Natural Lights and Ramen noodles Clor at the time a Pizza Delivery guy and James D a Pizza maker secured instruments and a band room and started developing the D-ZL sound. Fast forward to the fall of 1997 the Band was ready to play their first Show. The natural choice for these longtime LeRoy natives was the "Eagle Bar and Grill" a furious Flyering campaign ensued to the point where town Officials tried to crack down on the band. The flyering paid off D-ZL's first show was attended by 150-200 people, this was a great welcome by our close friends/family. The first D-ZL set consisted of the bands first songs "Spineless" "Fueled Intensity" "Confront Your Demons" "Drive" as well as some Rap songs where the band dropped their Instruments and picked up a Mic. With their confidence boosted the band decided it was time to hit the road. From 1997-2003 D-ZL played over 250 Shows all over the NY/PA areas, released 1 Demo called DZL 1997 (The Black Disk) "Feel This" in 1999 "On This Earth" in 2001 and the "Bleed" EP in 2003 recorded at Watchmen Studios with Doug White. Due to the bands busy live schedule D-ZL was able to leave their mark on the NY heavy music scene. In June 2003 D-ZL would play their last live show together to date in Rochester, NY. Clor had aspirations to move the band to a bigger city like Los Angeles or NYC this was not to be for the band. In June 2003 Clor moved to Los Angeles to pursue his musical aspirations including his Band Weapon-X while James D and Mugsy started beautiful families as well as their own respective band "Kaged" which did very well in its own right in the Rochester/Buffalo scene. Fast forward to 2014 all D-ZL members are still Brothers and serious talks have ensued to play shows together in the very near future. The Band D-ZL was a great school of hard knocks for Clor, Jackson, and Mugsy, what a ride it was.....the band learned what to do and what not to do. Great lessons that the musicians in D-ZL could apply to their future bands. Please stay tuned for the next D-ZL Chapter! D-ZL is a New York based Heavy Band formed in 1997 by Vocalist/Guitarist Dan Clor (Weapon-X) and Drummer James D. Jackson.
