About Gravy Flavored Kisses

Gravy Flavored Kisses was founded in March 2010 by J. Chester Castellaw and Damon Motto. “It’s a closely guarded secret. But what I can tell you is that it’s Popeye’s related”, explained Motto when asked of the origins of the unique band name. Gravy Flavored Kisses’ style dares you to pigeonhole it into one genre. The influences of blues, rock n’ roll, reggae, and gospel can be recognized throughout their repertoire. The result is a mixture of dirty blues riffs, soulful rock melodies, blaring horns, and infectious grooves that combine to form music that is diverse, energetic and light on pretense. They released their debut EP In the Red in November 2011. In the Red features songs about a late night bacchanal, a woman on a murderous rampage, a wife’s plan to wait for her wealthy, elderly husband to expire, and a tragic Mardi Gras Day. “If In the Red was about women behaving badly, the theme of The Mail EP is women behaving badly and men behaving even worse” says Castellaw about the group’s newest EP, which was released in early November, 2012. This year has been a busy one for GFK. Along with recording sessions, an impromptu Mardi Gras sidewalk show, performances at Uptown’s Le Bon Temps Roule, and playing festivals in southeastern Louisiana, they have branched out to the Gulf Coast. They spent the better part of the summer making a big splash at bars, blues clubs, festivals and honky tonks in Alabama and Florida. And 2013 promises to be even busier. Look for a full length album, performances at world famous New Orleans venues, and shows in your neck of the woods. For more information, to inquire about booking, or to feed your soul with some live video and other tasty content, visit us at www.gravyflavoredkisses.com, or www.reverbnation.com/gravyflavoredkisses. Heavy on the rock and roll, light on pretense.
