About Sons of Fannin
Flip the guitar amp off of standby. “I hope this thing still works” Colton Gilbreath thinks about all the gigs this amp has been through the past 10 plus years. It all started playing in bands in high school, gigging every weekend, no time for sports or school activities. He was in good company at Honey Grove High School; Tyler Bryant was a grade ahead of him and Kayla Reeves in the same grade! After graduating Colton played lead guitar for Dustin Perkins 2010-2012, and played on Dustin’s “The Next Step” album.
Mid 2012 Colton joined up with John David Kent and played on his “Before the Sun Comes Up” album produced by Dwight Baker. They toured constantly opening shows for Whiskey Myers, Josh Abbott and William Clark Green. They played Country Rendezvous Music festival in Craponne, France. Colton even filled in some shows playing lead guitar for Bart Crow Band.
January 2014, after loosing his father to cancer, Colton spent a few months under the radar and formed Sons of Fannin. “It was finally time to play all these songs I’d been writing over the years. All of the sudden my hometown and area I grew up in became very sentimental to me. And thats kind of where the band name comes from. I'm from Fannin County.”
The first self titled EP was recorded 2015 at War Room Studios in Sherman, TX.
Fighting for the Crown EP was recorded spring 2017 at SG Studios in Fort Worth, TX. Engineered and mixed by Greg White, whose recorded some #1's for Jamie Richards.
The band has steadily been playing shows around Texas and Oklahoma the past 4 years opening for artists: Koe Wetzel, Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown, Parker McCullum, Read Southall, Whiskey Myers, Stoney Larue, and Cory Morrow. They’ll be recording a full length record at Split Window Studios spring 2019.
