About Midnight Moxie
Midnight Moxie was once described by a stranger as “a basketful of kittens playing rock and roll,” which delighted the band to no end. The all-lady trio, born and raised in Chicago, is known for blending pop and rock song styles with doo-wop-inspired vocals. Coming together as a band nearly five years ago, sisters Meg and Nia O’Reilly Amandes and their longtime bestie Sarah Chang have been singing together all their lives, and the ease and humor that exists between them makes them irresistible onstage. The Moxie girls intertwine tight, honey-drenched harmonies, reminiscent of 1960s girl groups, with genuine rock-and-roll instrumentation. All three Moxies grew up in deeply musical households with a plethora of instruments at the ready, so nowadays they switch around on every song, playing, between the three of them, guitar, bass, drums, ukulele, keys, percussion, harmonica, and the occasional mouth-horns. Their original material shows their talent for creating pop tunes that stick in your head. Songs swing from pretty to gritty, with a healthy dose of sass and heartbreak liberally sprinkled in. Moxie fans find themselves giggling at the racy anthem “Men in Uniform,” wiggling to “Teach You to Dance,” tearing up at the poignant “Amelia,” and nodding oh-so-knowingly at “TMI.” With an outfit-theme guessing game at every show and a fair share of brazen banter, the band is as fun to watch in performance as they are to listen to. Midnight Moxie has played some of the most established hotspots in the Chicago music scene, including The Hideout, Schubas, Double Door, Martyrs’, SPACE, The Beat Kitchen, the Old Town School of Folk Music, and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Their “Gold Rush Tour” hit the West Coast in 2012, and they’re thrilled to be opening on several gigs for brink-of-stardom band Lake Street Dive’s “Bad Self Portraits” tour in March 2014. Midnight Moxie released their debut album, “Don’t Stop,” in the summer of 2011. A trio of newer songs are available as a digital EP entitled “En Route,” and a new full-length album is, well, en route. "Don't Stop" and more Midnight Moxie songs are available on iTunes, Amazon, and CDBaby. Doo-Wop/Rock & Roll http://midnightmoxie.com
