The Taken

In 1998 Doug Manteuffel and Mark Lafferty were playing and writing songs in the local Toledo band “The Wake”. At the end of that summer, Mark relocated to Louisiana for school, then work. Fast forward to 2009, Doug and Mark got back in touch and decided to write up some new songs and put finishing touches to previous works from their days in The Wake. In late 2009, The Taken was born. The Taken are not one specific genre that you can put your finger on. In 2010, The Taken finished up two CDs (the self-titled “The Taken” CD and “Plan B”, a collection of B-sides and cover songs). 2011 brings the Taken back to the studio to work on another set of original material. Doug shares vocal duties with Danielle Navarro Birmingham. Josh Bock brings his writing style and bass playing to several of the new songs. The music will continue to offer experimentation into various music styles. The Taken will continue to play live and work on a performing a wide mix of cover material ranging from Red Hot Chili Peppers and CCR to the Black Keys and Black Sabbath. The band has enhanced their production and recording skills with Logic Pro 9, Addictive Drums, Gibson & Fender guitars, Sennheiser and Behringer mics, VOX amplifiers and M-Audio keyboards and controllers. The live band consists of Doug, Mark, Josh Bock [bass], Dan Quilter [drums], and Danielle Navarro Birmingham [vocals]. The Taken will be releasing two distinct CDs, “Fire In The Sky” and “The Calm Repeat”. Each CD will contain a range of new material with music written by Mark Lafferty with Josh Bock adding bass to several songs. The CDs will feature several guest artists from the Toledo area as well. Both CDs will be available through iTunes, Amazon and other musical outlets by years end.
