About Malia Grace

With the release of Malia’s debut EP in the fall of 2015, Malia received coverage from The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Vinyl Mag, and many more, played official showcases at SXSW and CMJ 2015, and also had early success winning a local songwriter of the year award in 2014 (Bebobalooza). Following this, Malia acted as Music Director for American Idol 2016 finalist, Dalton Rapattoni, and returned from touring with him in mid-November of 2016. She has recorded a brand new EP along with a few new singles, including her song, “The One,” which is a favorite at weddings and has been highly requested and long awaited. She plans to release this music starting early 2017 and is excited for the listeners to hear a new side of her songwriting that reveals a more honest, vulnerable, yet strong aspect of her character.

Reviews have described her first EP as “nothing short of amazing” with an “infusion of pop melodies with country guitar licks” that “pairs perfectly with her sultry and soulful vocals” (Talk Nerdy with Us; Eat Sleep Breathe Music). In fact, one reviewer even exclaimed, “my only complaint about this record is that there aren’t more songs” (Talk Nerdy with Us).

Recently, Malia graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Music Business and Business Foundations. After graduating, Malia chose to pursue her passion for songwriting full-time rather than go on to grad school or accepting tempting offers in the business world. Credited by fellow musicians and mentors with an amazing ear for music and excellent pitch, Malia attributes much of these gifts to her efforts to overcome what doctors thought to be profound hearing loss as an infant and toddler. She focuses on bettering her craft daily and hopes to give listeners a cathartic experience with her music. She endeavors to inspire audience members to walk away learning something new about themselves and feeling more confident as a result.
