Deep roots and unstable ground, warm comfort and unresolved tension, proximity and expansiveness. Owning these contradictions, Cheshire Carr invents and embodies music in the space between indie-folk and psychedelic rock relying on ethereal vocal harmonies and sweeping instrumental build-ups. Cobbled together in a Montreal basement in 2014, drawing its sources from somewhere between rural England, the streets of New York and the shores of the Saint-Laurent, the band transposes the intimacy, depth and intensity of the themes and stories that inspire them into their music and performances.

In November 2016, Cheshire Carr released their first album, Odds and Ends, (mixed by Warren Spicer / Plants & Animals), singled out by critics for its originality and its subtly evocative nature (Fleet Foxes, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, The Band). Cheshire Carr has since performed in numerous festivals (MTL Folk Fest, Saint-Jerome Folk, Folk North Toronto), countless small venues and many Maisons de la Culture throughout Quebec and Ontario. To the delight of their francophone fans, the band released, in January 2019, a surprise 4 song EP completely in French. With their second album, Dawn Comes Crashing, now completed (recorded and mixed by Tonio Morin-Vargas / Bernard Adamus), Cheshire Carr presents itself with unambiguous self-affirmation, drawing listeners into an emotional maelstrom, a musical cinematography, where songs of love, loss and new beginnings collide. The instrumental and vocal climaxes characteristic of Cheshire Carr’s sound take on a new scope as the band is joined by friends and family to perform on various tracks, adding a true sense of collectiveness to the recording.

Cheshire Carr, c’est à la fois l’enracinement et l’instabilité, le confort et le tiraillement, la proximité et le vertige. La formation invente et incarne une musique dans l’interstice entre l’indie-folk et le rock psychédélique qui se caractérise autant par ses harmonies vocales éthérées et enveloppantes que par ses envolées instrumentales dramatiques et désarmantes. Bricolé dans un sous-sol montréalais en 2014 et puisant ses sources quelque part entre la campagne britannique, les rues new-yorkaises et les rives du Saint-Laurent, le groupe transpose depuis dans ses chansons et sur scène l’intimité, la profondeur et l’intensité des relations et des émotions qui l’inspirent.

En novembre 2016, Cheshire Carr présente un premier album, Odds and Ends (mixé par Warren Spicer / Plants & Animals), dont la critique souligne à la fois l’originalité et le caractère habillement évocateur (Fleet Foxes, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, The Band). La formation se produit dans le cadre de festivals reconnus (MTL Folk Fest, Saint-Jérôme Folk, Folk North Toronto) ainsi que dans de nombreuses salles de spectacle du Québec et de l’Ontario (dont plusieurs Maisons de la Culture). Au grand bonheur de ses fans francophones, le groupe fait paraître en janvier 2019 un EP surprise de 4 chansons en français. Avec son deuxième opus complet, Dawn Comes Crashing (enregistré et mixé par Tonio Morin-Vargas / Bernard Adamus), Cheshire Carr s’affirme sans ambages et entraîne l’auditeur dans un maelstrom émotif et sensible, dans une cinématographie musicale où s’entrechoquent des textes subtiles évoquant amours, deuils, départs et renouveaux. Les climax instrumentaux et vocaux caractéristiques du groupe atteignent ici de nouveaux sommets, appuyés par un piano, des cuivres et des percussions absents de ses premières compositions.
