About Madre Monte

One of the most sought world music acts in Australia, and amongst the leading representatives of the new wave of Latin-Australian music.

South American Roots outfit MADRE MONTE finds inspiration in the myths, folklore and music of Colombia, with a focus on taking these ideas and making art that is contemporary and that expands the Latin-Australian musical and mythical connection. A tight rhythm section, Afro-Colombian progressions, skankin’ guitars, hard-hitting horns, lyrics in English and Spanish, and a touch of electronic sounds to top it off all, intertwine to create what is now one of the most sought-after Roots act in Australia.

After years performing to crowds at festivals around Victoria, residencies at some of Melbourne’s most notorious music institutions, a tour of Tasmania and NSW, and selling out their debut EP – ‘Reaction’, Madre Monte turned it up a notch and released their second EP ‘Raza:Madre’ in May 2012, to a sold-out crowd at the Northcote Social Club and a debut album “El Man Caiman” launched after teaming up with world-renowned act THE CAT EMPIRE for a tour to sold out shows all around Australia. “El Man Caiman” continues expanding on Madre Monte’s Latin-Australian musical and mythical connection, creating music to accompany the journey encountered by mythical man “El Hombre Caiman”, who finds his way from Colombia to Australia. Madre Monte has always found inspiration in the myths, folklore and music of Colombia, with a focus on taking these ideas and making something that is contemporary and representative of their new home, Australia. With the album, they have mastered this blend, with lyrics in English and Spanish, multiple native and contemporary rhythms and a touch of electronic sounds to top it off.
2018 saw Madre Monte teaming up with world-renowned act JUANES for an Australian tour that will have them play in front of thousands of people that will keep the band continued touring around Australia with huge success. Madre Monte is now working on a new single that will be released later this year along with video and Australian tour.
The band has different layouts from the smooth and suave tropical trio set up to the eighth piece explosive band allowing flexibility to perform for a wide array of events and audiences.
