About Elsewhere Bound

Backed by a fusion of upbeat, over driven punk riffs and melodies with lyrics that tell a little something about the grit in this world, Brisbane’s newest independent band are Elsewhere Bound with their debut EP ‘A Part of Something’. Drawing from the best bits of pop punk, crediting influences to New Found Glory, Real Friends, Neck Deep, the formidable group are setting a sheer foundation for themselves in the scene with this debut EP. Conveying their set passion for the punk rock culture, ‘A Part of Something’ is about being able to, in their words, “hold onto what they believe in”. The single ‘Hold Fast’, is in the classic, punk-rock crowd-chanting anthem style that hurdles through heavy verses, eighth noted energetic choruses, with a half time outro that makes you feel like you're in a live show at an arena. Backing up the single on the EP are tracks that remain true to the fundamentals of pop-rock, but are fluid and contrast in style. With tracks such as and ‘Last Night’ and ‘Lost Kids’ being faster and heavier, the EP slows down during ‘A Part of Something’. With picked electric guitar and vocals, fading in a distant drum break until the band comes in, it allows for reflection on the lyrics and the intricacies of the band's songwriting and playing. These mavericks officially formed in late 2014 but each member have been independently making their way towards this point since 2012. Although each member has their role and plays their part, a major contributor to the songwriting is credited to Steph Wood (Guitar), whose experience has been working full-time composing tunes for the suckers on the phone, on hold. Whether it’s punk or not, she knows how to form a song, and the band know’s how to work it. Regardless of the jobs, it hadn’t drawn the band away from their punk roots and rolling out an EP. Wanting to affirm their presence, Elsewhere Bound entered the recording studio in March. Working with Gareth David at Tall Poppy Productions, their final product was no DIY project on cassette. Rather the production of ‘A Part of Something’ embellishes the 3 years of song-writing, line up changes and name changes the group endured; a rinse and repeat process as they sat and watched other bands prop up with the same name. Copyright infringement is the last thing this independent band needed. ‘A Part of Something’ reveals how Elsewhere Bound has unified into a whole, where they feel they “strike a balance between the positive upbeat vibes of pop punk and the more story and meaning-driven styles of alternative rock. It's not quite in either category and that makes it interesting.” Brisbane Pop Punk Band http://elsewherebound.bandcamp.com
