About Aquariums

Tennessee based Noir-Folk act, Aquariums, is helmed by the bearded and bespectacled Texas native Martin Schneider. Consisting of Schneider alone with the acoustic guitar, Aquariums plays a brand of Gothic Western music characterized by large dynamic builds contrasted with desperately quiet passages. Drawing influences from the dawn of Americana as well as the stylings of the great early pickers, Aquariums plays emotionally intense songs characterized by the ethos of love and loss combined with the storytelling of racontuers past. Schneider, a big fan of Mississippi John Hurt, Townes Van Zandt, and Donovan to name a few creates music for the sadder times in life, and like these legends, Aquariums tackles dark subjects asserting the belief that what makes life beautiful is not always "sunny". Schneider has been creating music under the moniker Aquariums since January of 2006. Since then Aquariums has released two full-length studio albums, three live EP's, and, most recently, one studio EP. This past June Aquariums released "Heartache Is A Four Letter Word." This EP, the third studio offering from Nashville songwriter Martin Schneider, consists of his most thoughtful creations to date. At 5 songs in length, Heartache, celebrates the solo performer. To preserve the emotion and intensity of a live performance all of these tracks were left unedited as complete performances with only minimal overdubs. Another notable part of this project was that it was recorded and mixed as a mono EP. The reason for this was as Schneider puts it is: "In a day of modern recording practices I wanted to create an album of songs that harkened back to an older time. To create something real, whole, and representative of what happens live on stage. I feel I have done just that." Aquariums has toured the Southeast several times and continuously plays in Nashville and the TN, KY, AL, GA region.
