About Judy Banker
“Judy Banker is emerging as a premier songwriter with universal appeal. A singular unique talent and stage presence, her music is organic and soul-driven.” Michael G. Nastos, Pulp Magazine Online, 88.3 WCBN-FM Ann Arbor
“A monster singer/songwriter talent.” John Bayerl, SeMiBluegrass.com
“Ann Arbor singer/songwriter Judy Banker writes songs rooted in vintage country style. Torch songs rife with intrepid melodic lines that twist and turn in delightful, unexpected ways, yet stay true to the genre. Her voice, tangy and bright as fall cider, brings to life articulate, arresting songs of lost love and the perfidy of human nature. Reminiscent of Loretta Lynn and Rose Maddox, Judy Banker's music remains contemporary, rich in everything the modern listener appreciates about old-time country music.” Maggie Ferguson, Host, Live! From the Living Room
Rooted in 60’s folk and vintage country, Ann Arbor songwriter, singer, and acoustic guitarist Judy Banker explores traditional roots musical territory and intricately makes it her own. Taking cues from country heroes Loretta Lynn to Gillian Welch, her songwriting is intensely personal, sharing warm love songs, lamentations, and narratives that dig deep into the universality of her own life experiences. Though new to recording, with 2014’s debut Without You and 2016’s Devils Never Cry, Judy has long been a part of the Ann Arbor music scene. She has performed with Michigan songwriting legend, Jay Stielstra, for nearly a decade and more recently is involved with projects with other musician friends, including Bill Edwards, Ed Dupas and Alan Pagliere.
She appears in the Judy Banker Band with musician friends including David Roof, Tony Pace, Brian Williams, John Sperendi, Alan Pagliere, Katie Van Dusen and/or Emily Slomovits. She also performs solo or with back up by David Roof, Ed Dupas or Alan Pagliere.
