About Rebecca Lappa
Rebecca Lappa, a dynamic singer-songwriter, seamlessly blends alternative music with folk undertones within a pop framework. Originally from San Francisco but proudly Canadian, Lappa is set to redefine the musical landscape in 2023. She's currently signed to Toni c Records and recently unveiled her latest album, "Tales of a Taurus," a project supported by her second FACTOR Juried Sound Recording grant.
This foray into Indie Pop marks Lappa's evolution as a songwriter, showcasing her willingness to explore new sonic territories. In this release, she elevates the concept of the wounded healer, delving into the poignant struggles of women in their 20s, offering both solace and hope. With an infectious sense of melody and an uncanny ability to craft unforgettable hooks, Lappa, often likened to Maggie Rogers and Sigrid, reveals a wisdom beyond her years.
In the spring of 2023, Lappa enraptured audiences at The Great Escape in the UK and during Canada Music Week at The Cameron House in Toronto, garnering over a quarter of a million streams. With upcoming plans for a tour and the release of two new singles in spring 2024, Lappa is poised to sustain this momentum.
Her narrative-driven compositions, filled with catchy melodies and insightful lyrics, earned Lappa three nominations at the 2019 Edmonton Music Awards, securing the title of Singer-Songwriter Recording of the Year. A five-time nominee at the Canadian Folk Music Awards, she clinched Young Performer of the Year in 2015. Lappa's songwriting prowess is further evident in her wins at the Calgary Folk Festival Songwriting contest, as well as her commissioned pieces for significant events and organizations.
Beyond her musical achievements, Lappa, armed with a Composition Diploma from MacEwan University, won the 10K Bell Media Prize in 2018 to attend Canada's Music Incubator in Toronto. In 2022, she completed her Music Therapy studies at Capilano University and finalized her Music Therapy Internship at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary, achieving Music Therapy Board Certification Accreditation in October 2023.
With a vibrant stage presence and a repertoire spanning genres and decades, Lappa has graced stages across Canada, sharing the spotlight with acclaimed artists. Boasting 20K social media followers and national chart presence on campus radio, Lappa is undeniably a rising star in the Canadian music scene. Her powerful vocals and authentic storytelling make her a standout talent, earning her the title of a must-watch artist.
