PAUL & GLORIA Pop sensibility. When something special happens between artists, there is always a common ground on which it happens. For Paul & Gloria, that common ground was and is pop sensibility; a shared love of the well crafted pop song! Paul & Gloria first met decades ago in that magical, musical landscape...the 80s. They are veterans of the C-U music scene, each having played in several bands that worked the same clubs, from the 80s through the present. But they never worked together. Fast forward to Spring, 2012. It started with a simple email from Gloria to Paul; "Hey Paul, I see you've been doing some solo acoustic shows. Would you be interested in doing some shows together?" With that idea in mind, simply getting together to play a show or two, the ball started rolling. And, the spark was immediate! They put together a couple of sets of cover songs, drawing from their songwriting influences (Beatles, Everlys, Bowie, Crowded House, to name but a few) and lined up some shows. The idea of writing together? Not an initial priority. In the Fall of 2012, Paul & Gloria hit the stage, tightly-knit harmonies in the forefront and started having a blast doing live shows all around Champaign-Urbana. They are fast approaching show #200! Inevitably, they began writing together that same year. Following a unique formula which could be best described as no formula at all ("Give me a title, I'll give you the lyrics", "Give me the lyrics, I'll give you the music."), they began collaborating on hook-laden, harmony-driven tunes that wear their influences proudly on the sleeve. Paul & Gloria songs such as Something About Love, A Minute or Two, and Sometimes I Forget sound fresh and new but make no apoplogies for the nod they give to the artists who shaped them. Paul & Gloria's songwriting partnership appears in recorded form with the early 2015 release of their debut album, Lime Drop. Presently, Paul & Gloria's live shows, always tailored to the specific venue, consist of a melange of well chosen cover tunes that audiences recognize and relate to, songs from Lime Drop and some individually written material from each of their catalogs. Their love for the music, their friendship with each other, and the joy they find in performing together make each performance special.
