About Static Cult
VEXES is an alternative punk rock band for fans of Rise Against, Billy Talent, Ignite, Alkaline Trio, Thrice, Foo Fighters etc. Lead singer, Jim has had a long and varied history in previous bands in the 90's and early 2000's having spent many years of touring with bands such as Offspring, Therapy, The Dead Kennedys, The Ataris, Pitchshifter, The Living End, The Bronx, Good Charlotte, Godsmack etc to name but a few and has also recorded an album with Guns'n' Roses ex members in LA featuring special guests. Jim then formed the band Vexes (originally known as The Static Cult) in November 2009 in Glasgow, Scotland. VEXES is Jimmy (Guitar and Vocals), Doog (Guitar and Vocals), Shev (Bass and Vocals) and Barry (Drums). Vexes have played dates with Bad Religion, Jim Lindberg (Pennywise), The Dwarves, Ignite and many more and are currently putting the finishing touches to their 15 track debut album due for release in early 2017. I kicked off my week with tunes by The Static Cult from Scotland. The lads blast an awesome strain of punk rock fury for fans of Ignite, Rise Against and Alkaline Trio and i highly recommend them. - Katie Parsons - Kerrang Magazine Scottish high energy punk rock shenanigans akin to some sort of train smash between Foo Fighters and Rise Against, only the good bits remain intact. Looking like a mean bunch of muthas this Glasgow crew have an utterly irresistible set of hooks that deserve to be anthems at a bunch of summer festivals. The set starts well but it is actually half way in where things go a bit stellar with "Birth Of A Nation" and "Salvation" which prove to be the anthems in waiting i mentioned earlier. So, promise, ruthlessly taught execution and gang choruses to die for. The Static Cult, very mobile and very soon to be much more than a cult. - 8/10 Simon Grays - More Than Music “This band needs to come to the USA ASAP! They sound like the next Bad Religion/Rise Against. Bottom line, they rock! Embers and Ashes is one of my favorite songs, also check out Hold Tight Hope” – Nevermind The Posers Do you love the Foo Fighters? Check out this Glasgow-based four piece who have the same canny ear for a huge melodic chorus, epic riffs and pounding drums.Their self titled debut is a huge turbo-charged joy. As big tattooed rock gods you can guess the lyrics as the band state their case on opening track Embers and Ashes: "Until our dying days we'll burn the heavens before we expire". Lyrics are peppered with destruction, fire, churning stomachs, wolves, hungry jackals and dreams of death. Some of the lyrics are beautiful and helpfully for a rock band you can hear each word. And no wonder the music is uplifting and tunes like Hold Tight Hope marry the new alternative rock of the Foos with blistering, ball-bashing punk rock. The self-titled album is released on Monday Sept 5th. -Rick Fulton - Daily Record For a band just releasing their debut album, The Static Cult sound very assured. And rightly so, their solid melodic punk anthems sound polished without sacrificing any of the bands integrity. Think Against Me! and early Alkaline Trio…the gang vocals on tracks such as "Hold Tight Hope" are intense. But it's not just rocking they specialize in, this album ends on a lovely acoustic number, "Dancing On A Burning Ship"…Any band who can convey the level of energy The Static Cult achieve on an album are definitely special. - Tracey Lowe - Big Cheese After you hear their album you would be forgiven for thinking that you had just listened to some American post punk/rock band, but the truth and sound resides much closer to home. The Static Cult are a quartet of melodic punk/hardcore men who formed in Glasgow in late 2009. Their sound appears as though it has been built on the 'old school' foundations of 90's Californian punk outfit Face To Face , although maintaining their hardcore stance, The Static Cult have added a harmonic collaboration to produce a mature sound with traces of Social Distortion and a healthy dollop of Rise Against. Their self titled album has brought them much recognition, which has seen them play shows with Bad Religion & The Black Pacific. They are also supporting multi-platinum rockers Bush at the O2 ABC, Glasgow, on the 28th August. A step into the mainstream seems certain given how far the band have come in such a short space of time. The album begins with an unbridled explosion of cathartic energy with the track 'Embers and Ashes'. It never lets up until the final number, 'Dancing On A Burning Ship', which is an acoustic track aptly placed to restore calm to what was 7 shout-along tracks of blistering, melodic hardcore anthems fit for any mosh pit and venue in the UK. When you have your hands on your free album I suggest that you put the money you saved towards a ticket for their support show with Bush which can be purchased here. One thing is for sure, they will not hold back and they will leave everything on the stage. Join the cult, get your pits ready and get your fists in the air. This will be a night to remember. - www.unsignedbandsonline.co.uk - Joe Watson Vexes self titled debut album will be released in spring 2017. www.vexes.co.uk
