About Source Act

Source Act officially began in January of 2014 with a clear intent to make quality rap music that was structurally and musically interesting and pull influences from completely different genres to create a beautiful Frankenstein’s monster. With influences including Kanye West, punk rockers The Ramones, Minneapolis-based Doomtree and Atmosphere, rap super producer RZA, and Nine Inch Nail’s Trent Reznor – Source Act is a mixing pot of great ideas, and great minds. Joule handles sung vocals, while NYX, Erev, & Mr. Crow are the rappers of the group, with the former two rappers also being the projects executive producers. Source Act recently released their debut album 'Horizons'. This record follows Source Act on the 2 year journey they've taken thus far as a group. It features the singles "Faded Memories", "Blue Sky (feat. Somantic, Fran Valentage, & Sully Anwar)", and "New Rockstars". It includes features and production from Cryptic Wisdom, Jon Januhoski of Crimson Arrow, Cyreides, Stephen Frost of Lead Magnols, Daniel and Gabe Traknyak of Sky Orchid, Somantic, Clark Bomba, Foreign, Insan Gomez, Sully Anwar, and Fran Valentage and Kyle Logan of K-Town Natives. The record was mixed by Jeremy Hatcher (The Used, Selena Gomez, Weezer) and mastered by Jared Conrad. You'll find heavy-hitting, peculiar-for-hip hop beats that pull influences from indie rock, grunge, punk, electronica, and power-pop. The instrumentation is mostly the result of executive producers Ryan Art (NYX) and Erev. Both also serve as rappers on the project, with NYX handling the poetic, abstract concepts housed in the songs and Erev tackling the emotional and concrete aspects. Mr. Crow provided some production as well as his unique brand of off-setting creep, utilizing his ability to flip pretty much any topic into a "crow-ism". Joule is the source of the wonderful sung vocals you hear throughout the record. With a background in pop vocals she is able to elevate many of the songs into angelic anthems, woeful laments, and spiritual catharsis. There truly is something on this album for everyone. Have performed with Avion Roe, Meraki/Toska, The Ramblin Boys, Castaway Radio, In Memory Of, City Roots, So Soon The Truth, T-Perez, BlazeTX, Machine Rex, Status Array, New Color, Sky Orchid, Somantic, Something Else, Warm Color Schemes, Spencer Fort, & Killing The Stereo Source Act is an alternative rap group based out of Houston, TX. It consist of the members Ryan Art, Somantic, Mr. Crow, & Joule
