About ROSIE CATALANO

"Her sugar-syrup vocals and rolling finger-picked guitar melodies made us sigh deeply before breathing in the fresh air of new music that comes without pretense or one-uppery." - Frankie Magazine. Rosie Catalano is a singer-songwriter whose lyrics balance bittersweet nostalgia with playful humour to create vivid, cinematic songs. The Sydney-based chanteuse is a raconteur, spanning mediums, seeing her published in both fiction and non-fiction books. As a result, her songs are written with an emphasis on narrative and character, providing a colourful and engaging quality to her music. On her sophomore EP (ABC 702 Album of the Week), each song tells a story and is testament to Rosie's beautiful brand of storytelling. The title track, Dreams Are Just Movies, is based on the concept that ghosts sit at the end of our beds as we sleep, watching our dreams and nightmares as though they are films. Her debut single Hearts offers a unique tale about two lovers who meet during a chance encounter. These 7 tracks take you on a journey through found love, lost love and the bits that happen in between. With the help of poignant producer Sarah McCallum (aka Miss Little), Rosie's crowd-funded EP, 'Dreams Are Just Movies' features a pool of unfairly talented guest musicians including Jack Carty, Brendan Maclean (Triple J, The Great Gatsby), Brian Campeau (The Rescue Ships), Evan Mannell (Bertie Blackman) and Veronique Serret (Joanna Newsom). In '09, Rosie won a song competition offered by indie-pop darlings, Little Birdy. The result was a collaboration with the band on an original song 'Where Did I Go Wrong?'. Rosie quickly went on to nab herself the coveted 'Album of the Week' slot on ABC Radio National, garnering a slew of high rotation radioplay across the country, as well as securing herself as a finalist for APRA's Professional Development Award in 2011 and the MusicOz Award in 2013. www.rosiecatalano.com
