About Katharine Timoney
Katharine Timoney is a jazz and soul singer-songwriter from Northern Ireland.
Her music combines elements of vocal jazz and retro soul with contemporary production. Drawing inspiration from powerhouse voices like Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone, her upcoming record produced by British saxophonist Ben Castle (Jamie Cullum, Gregory Porter) features pianist Mark Edwards, drummer Darren Beckett and bassist Arnie Somogyi.
In 2022, Timoney's EP 'Life Came into Colour' quickly gained significant play from JazzFM with 'Track of The Week' spots from DJs' Nigel Williams, Yolanda Brown and China Moses as well as a four week stint on the station's A-List with lead single 'Don't Fret'. In addition to Spotify editorial support from playlists 'Cosy Jazz', 'Fresh Finds Jazz' and 'Best Vocal Jazz of 2022’, the EP’s title track also won The UK Songwriting Contest (Jazz Category) this year.
Katharine began working with producer Ben Castle in 2019 after receiving the BBC NI Platform Award which saw her perform her songs with The Ulster Orchestra at a special BBC Concert in Belfast's Ulster Hall and at the BBC NI Proms in 2020. Her most recent single 'It Won't Always Be This Way' also produced by Castle recently featured on JazzFM's playlist.
