About Catherine
There are two bands named Catherine. The first is currently recording and hails from Sacramento, CA. It puts a new spin on metal, by combining the catchy with the epic, and the honest with the brutal. Through clever riffage, pounding drums and a few hot leads, Catherine's anthems speak of a powerful drive to better oneself and the scene.
Their debut album, "Rumor Has It: Astaroth Has Stolen Your Eyes", released August 8th on Rise Records, can be found in most record stores across the US. It features ex-lead singer Bryan Lemasters, who left for personal reasons after the recording of the debut album. Nick Bradwell replaced Lemasters for their second album, "The Naturals", released 7 August 2007 on Rise Records. The band stated that they were not going to begin making emo or screamo music, and that they would keep their fans informed and squash any rumors forming around the new vocalist. "The Naturals" features a more hardcore punk vocal style, as opposed to the more prominent metalcore stylings of their debut.
The second band named Catherine was active in the '90s but no longer records. Its most successful album was "Hot Saki & Bedtime Stories", featuring a guest appearance from D'Arcy (the bassist with The Smashing Pumpkins). Their music combined fragile melodies and trippy lyrics to create bittersweet and catchy indie rock. Former members of Catherine (including ex-frontman Mark Rew) are now in the band Buglette and have been playing local shows around the Chicago area. In the beginning of their career, Catherine was often portrayed as a Smashing Pumpkins imitator. The marraige of Catherine drummer Kerry to Smashing Pumpkins bassist D'Arcy, as well as D'Arcy's collaboration on some of Catherine's projects, did little to quell these criticisms.
