Punching Namard

Founded by Thiago Xavier (fiddle and tin whistle) and Alexandre Manjuba (vocals), the Punching Namard arose in middle 2012 with the ideia of mixing up the heaviness and dirty of the tradicional punk with the irish and celtic music melodic phrasing and various instruments, having as influence bands like Flogging Molly, Fiddler’s Green and The Real McKenzies.

It took almost a year untill that simple ideia becomes real with Henrique Jacques (bass and vocals), Leo Peccatu (drums and percussion) and Silas Mendes (banjo, mandolin, accordion and vocals) joining the band.

In January 2014 Punching Namard made its debut on the stages of Coluba Rock Pub, followed by a bunch of theaters such as Lapa Irish Pub, Heavy Duty, Studio B and Subúrbio Alternativo. In the end of the same year the band left the stages for a while for the recording and release of its Demo EP, featuring Silas Mendes also on lead and acoustic guitars and Leo Crust on rhythm guitars. The EP has received good international reviews, and from it, the band was, among other things, chosen as the January/2015 Band of the Month by the ‘Celtic Folk Punk and More’ Spanish website.

Now the musicians are preparing themselves to the return on stage to do what they like the most: start the mosh with their fans and invite all of them to raise their glasses in a toast!

Fundada por Thiago Xavier (violino e tinwhistle) e Alexandre Manjuba (voz), a Punching Namard surgiu em meados de 2012 com a ideia de misturar o peso e a sujeira do punk tradicional com os fraseados melódicos e os diversos instrumentos da música folk irlandesa e celta, tendo como influência bandas como Flogging Molly, Fiddler’s Green e The Real McKenzies.

Quase um ano se passou até que, com a entrada de Henrique Jacques (baixo e voz), Leo Peccatu (bateria e percussões) e Silas Mendes (banjo, bandolim, acordeon e voz), aquela simples ideia começou a se tornar real.

Em janeiro de 2014 a Punching Namard fez sua estreia em palcos no Coluba Rock Pub, passando em seguida por diversas casas de show como Lapa Irish Pub, Heavy Duty, Studio B e Subúrbio Alternativo. No final do mesmo ano a banda fez uma pausa nos shows para a gravação e lançamento do seu EP Demo, que contou com Silas Mendes também nas guitarras solo e violões e a participação de Leo Crust nas guitarras base. O EP tem gerado uma boa repercussão internacional, a partir dele a banda foi, entre outras coisas, escolhida Banda do Mês de Janeiro/2015 pelo site espanhol Celtic Folk Punk and More.

Agora os músicos estão se preparando para retornar aos palcos para fazer aquilo que mais gostam: iniciar a roda com seu público e convidar a todos a levantarem seus copos em um brinde!
