Mark Seymour

Firstly, great venue, was a little cramped but the feel was excellent. Support act was pretty good, Aaron Schembri, got the people involved in a couple of sing alongs, credit to him. Mark was as advertised. Aussie rock royalty, I have seen him play with the Hunters & Collectors many times and he never changes. His storytelling through his voice was and is amazing. He will always be one of the acts that I will always pay money to see. The surprise of the night was Linda Bull joining Mark on stage for Waitin' on the Kid. Spectacular.

This was an outstanding event. Mark Seymour continues to shine as one of Australias world class talents. All the supporting acts were of the highest quality. A fabulous night out enjoyed by all 👍

Brilliant, Mark Seymour and The Undertow were just brilliant! Polished, emotive, intimate, a touch of humour, simply wonderful. The songs get better and better 🎸🎶❤️

Brilliant! Still so much energy & passion! Excellent mix of old & new songs. Venue was small so got up close to stage & still room to dance!

Fantastic performance. Mark may also have a direct line to the weather gods as the torrential rain held back for the duration of the concert then returned. Hahaha!

Great show - loved the guys and Vika and Linda. Venue had inadequate ventilation and seemed like staff didn't care or know. Not good for a 35C day. felt like 40 in there surprised no-one fainted. Crowed behaved mostly everyone was enjoying themselves. Stars are for Mark and the Undertow!

I have been a follower of Mark Seymour/H & C for 40 years and have always enjoyed his music, lyrics and longevity. I was a little disappointed to hear a (short) welcome to country at the commencement of his set - I dont believe this was appropriate - we were there to enjoy his music. Loved the final riffing and extended play at the end of Westgate - he and Cameron smashed it out beautifully!

Mark Seymour and the Undertow were fantastic! The venue was quite disappointing though. Insufficient undercover area was made available for the audience and as the area had been inundated by torrential rain over the past few days and forecast to continue (and certainly did that night) it was unacceptable that the hotel did not make an effort to arrange suitable cover when they had plenty of pre-warning.

Excellent as always. This band just get better with age. Musically brilliant and Mark's voice is magical. A great venue to see them. It was intimate and inviting.

Discovered a new artist for me in Andy Martin, the support act. Really, really enjoyed Andy Martin and now off to check out all his songs!! Triffid is a great venue, can see the show, good bar service, good sound. Enjoyed Mark Seymour ( esp the old songs!)

One of the best shows I have seen this year Mark & band were on fire

Great venue, first time for me at The Tivoli. I was only in town for a couple of days, and happy to find Mark Seymour and The Undertow playing. First up, Seymour’s voice is stronger than ever. And so’s the songwriting. Loved his style of guitar playing in Hunters and Collectors, and glad to see it here up close on the old Tele and acoustic. The Undertow are a great band, from the tasty electric guitar fills, to the solid bass lines and diverse drumming styles, the band serves the songs and arrangements well. I was not at all familiar with Seymour’s solo material, but was pleased to experience the blues slash rock slash country, in the vein of Springsteen. Bought a copy of his latest - Slow Dawn - on vinyl. And by latest, it was released in 2019, and promotion delayed by Covid. We were treated to at least one new and unreleased track from a forthcoming album number five. I would recommend seeing Seymour live, if you are a “Hunters” fan. His between-song banter provides some vital context for the post-Hunters material, many of which have been written in various locations in Australia and abroad, and around a variety of themes. Seymour is the first to admit he has mellowed, no longer the angry young man at 67! He now writes about love and other emotions. He was restrained in expressing his disappointment tonight, about Australia’s overwhelming rejection that very day, of an Indigenous voice to parliament. You have to respect your audience, he said, but he also pointed out that he has to be honest, or the audience would know he wasn’t being honest. He then launched into one of the songs from his back catalogue around an Indigenous theme.. not being that familiar with his solo material, I’m looking forward to diving in and discovering more. Of course there were some choice selections of Hunters & Collectors songs, but the arrangements were very different sans a horn section. And this is a very different group, which has made those songs their own. Would recommend! Just a brief note about The Tivoli. It wasn’t at all what I was expecting. If you’re as old as me and a Newcastle person, think the old, now-demolished Palais Royale. Apparently it’s a former bakery, revived in the 1980s as a theatre restaurant. It’s a gem, with art deco styling. Much thought has been given to the sound, given there a two wings either side of the main room. Speakers have been positioned in these rooms, so no-one misses out on the good sound, no matter where you’re standing. There’s a reason why national and international touring artists stop here, and that’s a credit to the new owners. Five stars.

I've seen Mark and the U a number of times over the years and they are quality and consistent performers. Given the referendum results he did well to mention it, his own stance and then move on. The sound and mix were quite good although this is usually the case at the Tivoli - small venue and intimate feel. They did a lot of material from the Slow Dawn album, particularly in thefirst bracket of the set. This is a tight band, who quickly got into the groove and had a lot of foot tapping from the seated audience. Mark's vocals were not as good as usual although he had a lot of power, but the higher ranges were a bit scratchy in parts, but overall quite good. This band has never disappointed me. They are very good value indeed and there musically variety and heart-felt lyrics. All of this went down well with the audience who, like me, seem mostly disappointed with the referendum result and just enjoyed a thoroughly good set, including lots of favourites.

Sensational show by 2 absolute legends of Australian rock.. with a few surprise covers with their own original flair.

A fantastic show from a great performer. Acoustic set with supporting guitarist was flawless. Second half with James Reyne was excellent with great chemistry between the two. The Forum was the perfect venue; big enough to generate some concert atmosphere but small enough to maintain connection with the audiance.

From the first song, which was strong and tight, I felt something special going down. Mark and the Undertow smashed out a bunch of their songs, from the past and the new album Slow Dawn? with a sprinkling of H & C classics. "The Wizard" up the back playing guitar, slide, trumpet, cornet and keyboards gave a complete sound reserved for a much bigger line up. Mark's final encore solo was earth moving. As he mentioned during the show, it was great to be out enjoying live music again. Arrrr... that would be YES! Anita Theatre @ Thirroul, what a brilliant venue. Get your tickets and have a great night!
