About Sonya Kitchell

Two time Grammy Award Winner, Sonya Kitchell is a songstress with a voice that is unadorned and true. She weaves psychedelic folk & unbridled pop together in an array of classic melodies tinged with a raspy rock ‘n roll spirit.

Based in Brooklyn NY, she has toured the globe twice over in support of her first two internationally acclaimed records, Words Came Back to Me (2006) and This Storm (2008). She spent a life-changing year collaborating with the legendary Herbie Hancock on his Grammy-winning album, River: The Joni Letters, winning two Grammys — the first for her work on River: The Joni Letters and later for her work on Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Revelator. Her prolific, illustrious career is marked by collaborations with respected artists, including Joni Mitchell, Wayne Shorter, Jackson Brown, Reggie Watts, Blake Mills, The Barr Brothers, Blue Foundation, Yellowbirds and Trixie Whitley. Along with her last release produced by Stewart Lerman and done in collaboration renowned film composer Garth Stevenson, Sonya released her 2010 EP Convict of Conviction.

She has graced the stage at Carnegie Hall, Hollywood Bowl, the Montreaux Jazz Festival, Newport Folk Festival, and Central Park Summerstage. Her televisions appearances include Late Night with David Letterman, Live at Abbey Road.
We Come Apart explores the remnants of things, the space in between our atoms. The album represents years of Kitchell’s learning from masters, unlearning expectations, and re-emerging as a vivid, fresh voice.
