About The Hysterical Injury

Melodic and energetic duo. Been around a while. We have two EPs, One album, 3 Singles with remix B-sides all released by Crystal Fuzz Records. Funded through Strummerville - The Joe Strummer Foundation. The name came from the idea that Victorian England may have referred to female genitalia as a hysterical injury. There is no fact for this, it was put together through Freud's chosen use of the word Hysteria and its Greek root 'Hysterikos' meaning 'troubled womb' and so on. We have nothing else linked with Victorian England, we were born in Wales from Scottish/Italian parentage and now live in the West Country. We have toured around UK extensively and have played Internationally both with HI and other musical adventures. There has been a lot of support along the way from BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio Wales, 6 Music, Resonance FM, Amazing Radio, BCFM, Woody Radio Canada, Virgin Radio France and countless blogs, magazines and zines. My Favourite thing said ever was when Ruth Barnes of The Other Woman Show [Resonance FM, 6 Music, Amazing Radio] said, in 2014, I was her all time favourite front woman. In this rather difficult world of music - that is to say outside of the actual creative part - that thing Ruth said helped me to remember who I was and that what I did was ok. Thanks always to Ruth. Below is some info about our releases to date. We are currently working on the next album which is why we've been quiet on the gig front. Love always, Annie. Our first album Dead Wolf Situation came out in 2012. It made albums of the year lists with, among others, Louder than War, God Is In the TV, Drunken Werewolf and Music Liberation. Here are some comments others made about the album: "Beats as infectious as 14th Century London" - Artrocker * * * * "A debut to be dazzled by" - Venue * * * * "Things of beastly beauty" - The Girls Are * * * * "...rock très viscéral, aidé en cela par la douceur d'une voix mi-ange mi-diablotin..." - Jazz, Blues & Co 7.5/10 "The range of sounds and expressions created across these dozen songs – particularly with the guitars – is remarkable and almost viscerally striking" - Wears the Trousers 7/10 "Meaty and tense art-punk tales of claustrophobia" - Keep Pop Loud Available now from all major download stores; and on CD and download from http://hystericalinjury.bandcamp.com = = = = = = = = And about the band: "[A] hidden gem" / "We think they're rather good" - The Guardian "A great, rhythmically thrashing pop racket!" - Steve Lamacq "Stunning" - Bethan Elfyn "Extraordinary - how two people can make a noise that big and that good is beyond me" - Tom Robinson "Blew the room apart" - The Girls Are "Blind and foaming adoration is completely defensible" - Drunken Werewolf "...left us gasping for awestruck breath" - Live-Music-Scene.co.uk “the noise of Sonic Youth and the power punches of Sleater-Kinney” - VenusZine.com “...dirty, rock-laced pop with gushing charisma and a kick like a mule” - IwillBeHeard.co.uk “...raw, menacing, demanding, driving, busy, thundering...” - The Organ “The fantastic Hysterical Injury were on after us and were AMAZING...” - Violet Violet “...like Karen O rutting with The Primitives over a broken drum kit... Just brilliant” - Venue magazine ===== We formed in 2007 as a guitar, bass, drum three piece. We have two self-releases: November 2008 - The Hysterical Injury EP (features guitarist Robert Jackson and Lee Stone on drums) June 2009 - Our Lives Are A Futuristic Nightmare (first Duo release with Lee Stone on drums) Our music is melodic and energetic.
