About Preachers Son

PREACHERS SON is fronted by Kíla bass player Brian Hogan, the real life son of a preacher man. During Brian’s childhood his father Larry Hogan spent his life singing and preaching the message of the Gospel, and wouldn't let Brian listen to AC/DC. Instead, Brian started listening to Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Bowie, Neil Young and grew his hair long. (Larry Hogan's album “Simple Song of Love” produced by Bill Whelan made number 1 in 1974). Brian was handed a bass at the age of 12, got drafted into his dad's Christian band and spent summers touring Europe. The seed was sown and a minstrel's life it was to be, intertwined with sojourns of animation and illustration for, amongst others, Disney and Murrakami Wolff (credits include the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Duck Tails and Tailspin). After a decade of playing bass in the folk/trad world, Brian took the bull by the horns and launched his solo project Preachers Son, a heady brew of grit-glam, blues tinged, swamp-rock inspired by his childhood heroes. Since then Brian has collaborated with a wonderful array of musical guests, but 2014 now sees Brian joined by drummer Geoff French (The Brilliant Things) and guitarist Mark Walsh (The Cold 100). The new album ’10 STORIES TALL’, which was finished in Los Angeles produced by Warren Huart (Aerosmith, The Fray), with previous production from Marc Urselli (Lou Reed, Mile Patton, John Zorn) is set for release in the UK and Irish release Aug 4th 2014. Notes: Brian has many notable musical highlights of his career, including playing Glastonbury, Reading, Cambridge Folk Festival, the Electric Picnic (Ireland), Womad Festivals worldwide and the Montreaux Jazz Festival. In 2008 Brian with Kila, highly regarded as Ireland’s most innovative contemporary folk and new world artists, shared a number-one-hit alongside U2 and The Dubliners (The Ballad Of Ronnie Drew) and in 2010 an Oscar nomination for animated feature ‘The Secret of Kells’. To date Brian has enjoyed playing with many talented artists including George Hamilton IV, Bono, U2, Ronnie Wood, Sinéad O Connor, Gavin Friday, The Dubliners, Paul Brady, Donal Lunny, Liam O Maonlaoí and Glenn Hansard. Heady brew of grit-glam, blues driven, swamp-rock with high-octane bursts of downright filthy riffs, raw impassioned vocals and pummeling bass lines.
