About OLYA

Inspired by the work done at the Berklee Interdisciplinary Arts Institute (BIAI), Olga Kisseleva, otherwise known by her artist name Olya, has been exploring interdisciplinary performance incorporating electronic music, digital video, and live painting. Together with a talented visual artist Fotini Christophillis, she started a new project – "Xenai" – bringing the three media together into one.

Brooklyn-based Russian-born Olya started her music career as a singer-songwriter when she co-produced and self-released her debut album “Carefully” in 2010. In just a few years she gained a level of notability for, as TriStateIndie wrote, putting her own stamp on the genre of world/pop music. With her band Olya frequently performed at famed NYC music venues, including The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, NuBlu and Bowery Electric and well-regarded music festivals, including CMJ, CBGB and Northside Festival.

In the latter half of 2013, under the flagship of electro synth-pop sound, Olya started her collaboration with a Grammy winning mixer and producer Nic Hard known for his work with Snarky Puppy. Her single "Crash and Burn" was followed by a 7-song EP "Utopia", which Olya fully recorded and produced in her studio and mixed with Nic Hard. "Utopia" was released in June 2015 at the Northside Festival in Brooklyn.

In 2016, Olya got accepted with scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she pursued studies in composition, music production, sound design and live performance. In 2018, as a Berklee alumna, she returned to New York where she continued her new passion for cross-disciplinary projects and composition for visual media.
