About Joel Taylor
Sydney, Australia-turned-LA-based singer/songwriter Joel Taylor fine-tuned his craft in a musical family that included everything from his boogie-woogie piano playing grandfather, a member of one of Oz’s first rock bands, Col Joy & The Joy Boys, to learning how to play New Orleans stride from his mother. Joel followed his dream to LA where like his idol, Billy Joel, he plied his trade at local piano bars playing for the contents of a tip jar.
His first release, the double single Two Sides, a piano driven, energized, cut and B-Side “What Good Is Love”, a heartbreaking, acoustic ballad made his presence known. On “Give Myself Away”, Joel revealed his pop side and then he took us to church with “Moment’s Notice”, a gospel hymn about rebirth. While in Nashville, he joined Rhett Miller and Andy Skib for “Little By Little”, a warm-hearted, feel good tune about finding a sense of belonging and planting your roots. The song and video were released mid-pandemic and gave his audience that comfy sweater, hug during a time of uncertainty.
His newest, the self-produced, “I Won’t Let You Down” written by Taylor and British songwriter/artist Alfie Jackson (Barns Courtney, The Holloways) is a delicately crafted, emotional, love, ballad with intimate vocals set against a blend of graceful, electronic production touches and subtle, instrumentation that feels sadly elegant with a touch of hope. Joel is currently hard at work on his forthcoming EP set to release in 2021.
