About Young Monarch
Young Monarch's music takes you on a journey through the emotional vulnerability of young people and the trials and tribulations faced when growing up; the nostalgic, familiar emotive milestones they have encountered in day-to-day life a recurring reminder in their content. Building their story from the curious Channel Island of Jersey, Young Monarch effortlessly combine electronics and classical instrumentation (trained at the Royal Northern College of Music) with an idiosyncratic vocal delivery and contrasting pop production that catapults them into a class of their own.
“When I write lyrics, they come from me, they are me, we are one in the same. I try to be as truthful to myself when writing them as if it was my diary, publishing it to the world hoping that someone will understand and relate to what I'm feeling.” - Songwriter Rebecca Lewis
Young Monarch have garnered national radio support from Radio X ’s John Kennedy, BBC Radio 1 ’s Huw Stephens and BBC Radio 2 alongside regional backing by BBC Introducing Jersey and Manchester, while recent single 'Strangers' amassed a thousand shares across various Spotify playlists and was even featured on New Music Friday UK and Hot New Bands. Elsewhere, notable live highlights include supports at capacity shows at the iconic Liverpool Philharmonic Hall (with Tokio Myers), The Royal Albert Hall in London and a landmark headline sell-out show at Manchester’s Sacred Trinity Church . In 2018, the band also performed on the cosmopolitan festival circuit at Dot to Dot, The Great Escape, Tramlines and sub-headlined a full 700 capacity tent at Head for the Hills Festival.
Young Monarch have continued to channel the heart of their stylistic inspiration through Rebecca Lewis, the enigmatic lead vocalist and Jersey-native. Her ties to Jersey stem as far back as to her Grandparents, who were massively influential in the community and shared a similar affinity to the island. The heartfelt love-affair with Jersey has since been laid bare through all of Young Monarch’s releases, the most recent filmed overlooking the illustrious seascapes, culminating in a powerful main stage performance at Jersey Weekender Festival that has further developed their status as aspiring homegrown heroes of the Island. It was this love affair, as well as their performance at said festival, that piqued the interest of BBC Introducing Jersey and Guernsey while cementing Young Monarch as Jersey's darlings.
