About The Strays (UK)

The Strays are a raucous Garage Rock n Roll trio, hailing from Cheltenham.

With their eclectic musical influences, they write modern music that breathes new life into the genre, using elements of rock, pop, punk, country and blues, combined with rocking riffs and driving beats.

The current line-up formed in March 2016, when the band found influence from the likes of Imelda May, Caro Emerald, Chuck Berry, and Johnny Cash. Finding joy in the spirit and upbeat nature of rock n roll and rockabilly, the band immersed themselves in the scene, discovering artists old and new. They began to write their own material using ideas and riffs from the vintage era, but mixing with their own contemporary musical tastes, to create something that drifted from, and challenged the rockabilly template as it developed.

They have been working to a tireless gigging schedule (in excess of 100 gigs in 2017) to spread their music far and wide, sharing festival lineups with Dr Feelgood and the Lambrettas, as well as supporting The Redhot Trio and The Daniel Wakeford Experience. In April 2017 they worked with acclaimed producer George Shilling to release their debut EP "Wham, Bam, Thank you Ma'am" across iTunes/Amazon/Spotify, and also released their first official video to their track "Alright", produced by Urubu designs. Their ethos is simple, to produce vibrant, exciting, high energy music that people just want to move to, (and move fast!) with a nod to vintage style and rock and roll, topped with a modern gritty vibe. Energy and fun is the driving factor and this is apparent in their performance style, which is larger than life, interactive, and deliciously unpredictable.

Having received some great reviews (hailed as “MUCH better than the usual!”- Roy Williams of Nervous Records) and airtime on a number of digital radio stations based in the UK, Canada and North America, they are working hard to gain exposure and hit the festival scene in 2018.
