About The Resentments

Started 9 years ago as something to do on a Sunday night at the Saxon Pub, a favorite South Austin bar, The Resentments are all seasoned musicians who front their own bands but enjoy the dynamic of being a sideman as well. Using an eclectic acoustic/electric format, they're free to try anything, newly written songs, old favorites, various styles and tunes unavailable to them in their respective bands, switching instruments like it's no big deal. A healthy disregard for each other plus an open door policy for any other friends that happen by, makes the Sunday Evening service at The Saxon Pub a uniquely Austin event.

They guarantee that tonight's show is gonna be different from last night's show, and that's about the only promise they'll keep.

The Resentments:

Stephen Bruton is the movie star of the band.

'The Fort Worth Panther' has played and recorded with Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Barbara Streisand, T-Bone Burnett, Maria Muldaur, Marcia Ball, Lowell George, Bob Schneider's Lonelyland, Gene Clark, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, Delbert McClinton, Bob Neuwirth, B.B. King, and The Wallflowers. His production credits include Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Chris Smither, Hal Ketchum, Storyville, Alejandro Escovedo, and poet Raul Salinas. Hal Ketchum, Kris Kristofferson, Rita Coolidge, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Patty Loveless, Jimmy Buffet, and Bonnie Raitt have covered his songs.
He's just a fever, you better watch out!
Stephen has released five solo albums full of hits, the latest, "From The Five" (New West) is the baddest of the bunch.

Jon Dee Graham is the punk rock evangelist of the group.

He has played and recorded with The Skunks, The True Believers, Calvin Russell, Kelly Willis, John Doe, Michelle Shocked, The Gourds, Ian Moore, Chris Smither, Norway's Hellbillies and Kacy Crowley.
Jon Dee keeps the only monkeypotamus known in captivity in a swamp-cage in his garage.
His solo releases, "Escape from Monster Island"(Freedom), "Summerland"(Freedom), "Hooray for the Moon"(New West) and "The Great Battle"(NewWest) are all critically acclaimed, and his latest release "Full"(Freedom), his best work to date, topped the European Americana charts in 2006.

Scrappy Jud Newcomb dreams of hiking to Slovenia, just him and his guitar.
(well, and maybe you, darlin...)

He has played and recorded with The Loose Diamonds, Ugly Americans, the Imperial Golden Crown Harmonizers, Toni Price, Ian McLagan, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jerkuleez, and has produced fellow Austinites, Beaver Nelson, Mike Hall and Matt the Electrician.
Jud travels light, is unusually friendly, and has put out two solo records:
"Turbinado" (Freedom), is like finding lost treasure, and his latest release, "Byzantine"( Freedom), haunts the minds of critics and fans alike.

Bruce Hughes, the golden child, is surrounded by the arms of Shiva.

He has played and recorded with The True Believers, Arthur Brown, Ronnie Lane, Dr. John, Poi dog Pondering, Abra Moore, Howe Gelb & Giant Sand, Teratoma, Ugly Americans, Cracker, The Scabs, Jerkuleez and Bob Schneider.
Hughes claims to be a practicing breatharian, is starting an all nude army and is preparing to release a new solo Album, "shorty"(Freedom/broke-dick).
His previous release, "Bluebird" (Freedom), a sophisticated Southern gothic, is breaking one heart a week.

John Chipman has deeeeep pockets and loves to be called Daddy.

He studied mallets at The University of Oklahoma, and has played and recorded with George Devore, Marcia Ball, Jon Dee Graham, The Band of Heathens, Walter Tragert, Debbie Walton, Michelle Anthony and numerous other Austin artists.... He also appeared on Austin City Limits with C&W artist Clay Walker. Before joining up with The Resentments, John spent his time looking at the stars...now he is one.
