About Ciara Sidine
Dublin singer-songwriter Ciara Sidine’s sound has been described as ‘Americana with an unmistakably Celtic feel to its poetic lyrics and confident vocals’ (UNCUT). Her much-anticipated new album Unbroken Line (autumn 2017), follows on from her successful debut Shadow Road Shining, described in Hot Press as ‘Exquisitely beautiful . . . recommended from the highest heights.’
Her feminism is central to her creativity. ‘My Finest Flower’ – an ode to survivors of Mother and Baby Homes and Magdalene Laundries – seeks to honour those women whose babies were taken from then against their will, and the bond that could never be broken. ‘Let the Rain Fall’ expresses a sense of emotional loss in response to the truth-evading tactics of religious institutions in the face of abuse scandals; and ‘Trouble Come Find Me’ is a call for sisterly unity in the fight for equality and the reclamation of feminine power.
The singer-songwriter says of her upcoming new album: ‘It has been some time in the making and I’m excited to be going out there with new music. The creative journey of Unbroken Line has had twists and turns, and the songs reflect that. The title theme is about the search for continuity and connection in a world where that can easily feel obscured or broken. Everyday struggles and hopes – personal, political, creative – inspired these songs, with themes that range from the reclaiming the voices of women from Ireland’s buried past; the ongoing fight for female bodily autonomy and more playful reflections on love and equality.’
Sidine’s work has been described as combining shades of Gillian Welch, Maria McKee and Alison Krauss, but the singer-songwriter is very much her own voice. Unbroken Line is a remarkable showcase of this.
