About Maile Mills

Maile Mills, a native of Mascoutah, Illinois, graduated from McKendree University in 2015 with a dual degree of a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a specialization in flute performance, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, with a specialization in criminal justice. In 2017, she graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with her Master of Music degree, with a specialization in flute performance. At Eastern Kentucky University, she published her graduate thesis, "Investigating Twenty-five Volumes of The Flutist Quarterly: A Content Analysis".

Maile has performed with many different prestigious ensembles, including the Eastern Kentucky University's Symphony Orchestra, the Eastern Kentucky University's Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Lexington Community Orchestra, and the Firebird Chamber Ensemble. She has appeared as a student guest musician with the St. Louis Wind Symphony and she has also volunteered as a flutist for the Madison Community Band in Richmond, KY, the Belleville Community Band in Belleville, IL, and the Troy Community Band in Troy, IL. Maile performs professionally with the Edwardsville Community Municipal Band in Edwardsville, IL and the Highland Municipal Band in Highland, IL.

As an active performing artist, Maile has attended master classes with many well-known and accomplished flutists, including Cara Dailey, Ann Choomack, Viviana Guzman, Jennifer Nitchman, and Matthew Allison. Her primary teachers include Gary Schocker, Heather Verbeck, Kristen Kean, and Jennifer Gartley.

Maile maintains a private flute studio and currently works as a flute instructor at Highland Middle School, where she also gives private lessons. Her future goals include performing in a professional woodwind quintet, studying jazz flute, performing competitively on her alto flute, and producing her own music CD.

Maile currently plays on a Miyazawa 202 with an MX-2 headjoint, a Haynes piccolo, and an Armstrong Heritage alto flute.
