Deux voix superbes, deux carrières musicales accomplies, les chanteuses Karen Young et Coral Egan sont enfin réunies dans le spectacle Mère et fille, interprétant leurs chansons favorites. Éveline Grégoire-Rousseau à la harpe électrique et Pierre Érizias à la basse électrique accompagnent la guitare et le synth de Coral et les percussions de Karen. Sublimes en harmonie, leurs voix nous chavirent à chaque chanson.

Karen et Coral invitent les spectateurs au sein de la famille Young-Egan, dans l'enfance de Coral, alors que la mère et la fille harmonisaient leurs voix sur des chansons en tout genre, comme un jeu, un plaisir, un défi à relever. À 11 ans déjà, au Festival de jazz de Montréal, Coral a chanté une chanson brésilienne sur scène avec Karen.

Cette complicité rejaillit une fois de plus dans le cadre de cette première tournée collaborative entre mère et fille. Les deux artistes revisiteront quelques chansons tirées du repertoire de Karen et Coral ainsi que des morceaux du répertoire pop, world, folk et jazz. Au menu, des pièces de Djavan, Ayub Ogada, Catherine Major, Radiohead, Steve Lacy et beaucoup plus! Un album sera lancé en mars 2017.

Duo Young-Egan
Coral et Karen chantent ensemble depuis toujours. Vivre et grandir aux côtés de sa mère était la première formation musicale de Coral. Karen nourrissait ses jeunes oreilles de morceaux choisis dans différents styles pour développer sa polyvalence et lui a permis de chanter professionnellement très tôt sur son album jazz Contredanse, primé du Félix de l'Album jazz de l'année en 1988. Avant d'amorcer sa carrière solo, Coral aura déployé ses ailes en participant à plusieurs spectacles et quatre albums de Karen, notamment à titre de soliste sur l'oratorio Canticum canticorum en 2000.

Coral passe la première décennie des années 2000 à travailler sur ses propres projets, albums et tournées. En 2015, elle collabore une fois de plus avec sa mère sur le très touchant album Missa Campanula et les deux artistes sont invitées à Belle et Bum pour chanter une chanson de Joni Mitchell. Un premier grand concert collaboratif, à guichets fermés, est présenté dans le cadre du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal à l’été 2016! Les deux décident alors d’amener ce beau spectacle sur la route.
Biographie

Coral Egan
Depuis 2002, Coral Egan poursuit une carrière d'auteure-compositrice-interprète au Québec et au Canada. Très tôt en carrière, elle a connu du succès avec ses albums The Path Of Least Resistance (2002) en nomination aux prix Juno pour l'Album jazz de l'année et My Favourite Distraction (2004) qui a remporté les Félix de l'Album anglophone de l'année et de la Production de l'année. Suivra Magnify (2007) qui marie soul, folk et bluegrass. La voix soul, intense, riche et sensible de Coral Egan est reconnaissable entre toute et nous va droit au cœur.

En 2010 et 2011, s'inspirant de la nouvelle génération d'artistes indépendants, Coral Egan a composé une série de chansons très autobiographiques qui ont mené à l'album The Year He Drove Me Crazy (2012). Écrites en collaboration avec le compositeur Albert Chambers, les chansons explorent les complexités associées aux familles reconstituées, aux relations amoureuses. On y voit la volonté de l'artiste à composer des chansons plus intimes, partageant les hauts et les bas de son quotidien auprès de son public. L'album fut mis en nomination en 2013 pour le prix Félix de l'Album anglophone de l'année et pour celui de la Meilleure prise de son et mixage de l'année, ainsi que pour le Juno de l'Album adulte contemporain de l'année en 2014.

Karen Young
L'auteure-compositrice-interprète et arrangeuse Karen Young a fait ses débuts professionnels avec un single, la chanson folk Garden of URSH parue en 1971. À la mi- 70, elle s'est découvert une passion pour le jazz qui ne la quittera plus en découvrant les albums bebop jazz de Lambert, Hendricks & Ross. Durant les années 80, elle élargit ses horizons musicaux en chantant dans des chœurs de musique classique et de musique ancienne ainsi que pour la Société de musique contemporaine du Québec. Précurseure en musique du monde, elle a commencé à chanter dès les débuts 80 avec des ensembles de musique brésilienne, haïtienne et cubaine.

Artiste indépendante avant l'apparition des étiquettes indie, elle a créé en 1991 son label, les disques URSH, et a endisqué des albums éclectiques où se succèdent le jazz, le world, le classique et le folk. En 2015, elle a sorti Missa Campanula, sa messe chorale chantée a cappella pour double-chœur, quintette de solistes et petit chœur de sopranos, ainsi que l'album jazz You Make Me Feel So Young, avec Sylvain Provost à la guitare et Normand Guilbeault à la contrebasse.

Récipiendaire du prix Oscar-Peterson en 2016 et bénéficiaire d'une bourse de carrière du CALQ en 2008, Karen Young a remporté avec Michel Donato le Prix Félix de l'Album jazz avec Contredanse en 1988, et celui de l'Album classique vocal en 2008 pour son album Âme, corps et désir. Karen Young n'a jamais refusé un défi musical, ayant chanté dans plus de 20 langues, passant de partitions impossibles avec la SMCQ, à des albums pour enfants; sa voix se retrouve sur plus de 40 albums.

Two superb voices, two accomplished musical careers, singers Karen Young and Coral Egan are at last reunited for the show Mère et Fille, interpreting their favorite songs. Accompanied by Éveline Grégoire-Rousseau on electric harp and Pierre Érizias on electric bass -with Coral's guitar, synth and Karen's percussion, their voices in harmony blow us away with each song.

Karen and Coral invite us into the heart of the Young-Egan family, back to Coral's childhood, when mother and daughter harmonized together on all sorts of songs, like a game, a challenge. At 11 years old, at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Coral sang a Brazilian song with Karen.

This complicity comes together one more time in this first collaborative tour of mother and daughter. The two artists will revisit songs from the earlier repertoires of Coral and Karen, as well as tunes from the pop, World, Folk and Jazz repertoires, harmonizing on songs by Djavan, Ayub Ogada, Catherine Major, Radiohead, Steve Lacy, and much more! An album will be launched in 2017.

Duo Young-Egan
Coral and Karen have sung and shared music together since their beginning. Coral's first musical education was living with her mother. Karen filled her young ears with a vast array of music in order to develop her openness and versatility, bringing her on stage professionally at an early age, for example on Contredanse, which won a Felix in 1988. Before starting her solo career Coral toured with her mother and sang on four albums, notably as a soloist in Canticum Canticorum in 2000.

Coral spent the first decade of 2000 working on her own projects, albums and tours. In 2015 she collaborated once more with her mother on the very touching album, Missa Campanula, and the two artists were invited to sing a Joni Mitchell song on Belle et Bum. In the summer of 2016 they performed to a full house at the FIJM. From this they decided to take their new show on the road.
Biography

Coral Egan
Coral Egan is primarily a singer songwriter in Québec and Canada. Early in her career, she was successful with her first album The Path Of Least Resistance (2002), nominated for a Juno for the Jazz vocal album of the year. Will follow My Favourite Distraction (2004) who won Felix awards for English album of the year and Producer of the year, and the soul, folk and bluegrass album Magnify (2007). With beguiling tone, impeccable phrasing and true intonation, her undeniably recognizable voice flows from the heart.

In 2010, taking inspiration from a new generation of independent musicians, Coral Egan composed a series of autobiographical songs that led to the album The Year He Drove Me Crazy (2012). Written in collaboration with composer Albert Chambers, the songs explore romantic love and the complications of blended families. It is a deeply personal ode from a musician who has discovered the desire to share her highs and lows with her public. The album was nominated for English Album of the Year and Recording Engineer of the Year at Le Gala de l'ADISQ 2013, and for Adult Contemporary Album Of The Year at the 201 4 JUNO Awards.

Karen Young
Singer-composer and arranger Karen Young started her professional career with a single, folk song Garden of URSH, in 1971. In the mid 70's she discovered the Bebop vocals of the group Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, which determined her never-ending passion for jazz. In the '80s, while touring with accoustic bassist Michel Donato, she expanded her musical universe singing in Classical and Sacred choirs, Early Music groups, as well as SMCQ (Socièté de Musique Contemporaine de Montréal). She also began exploring World Music and singing Brazilian, Haitian and Cuban, as well as Bulgarian music.

Independant before 'Indie', she created in 1991 her own record label, Les Disques URSH, and recorded 11 albums with music ranging from Jazz, World, Classical, Folk and Country. In 2015 she released her poly-choral mass, Missa Campanula, sung a cappella by double adult choir with solo quintet and treble choir, and the jazz album You Make Me Feel So Young with guitarist Sylvain Provost and upright bassist Normand Guilbeault.

She received the Oscar Peterson prize of FIJM in 2016 and a career grant from CALQ (Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec) in 2008. She received two Felix awards; Best jazz album in 1988 for Contredanse with Michel Donato and Best vocal Classical album in 2008 for her album Âme, corps et désir (music of the 14th century).

Karen Young has never refused a musical challenge, having sung in more than twenty languages. Going from the impossible charts of SMCQ to children's songs you can hear her voice on more than 40 albums.
