About The Jerks

There is more than one band named The Jerks:

1.) The Jerks - Australia

A 4 piece punk rock band hailing from the upper class Salisbury area in Adelaide, South Australia. While well known in their local punk community, socio-economic factors and smell make it difficult for this band to achieve any level of success.

2.) The Jerks - Philippines

The Jerks have been dancing in the "broken glass," so to speak, since they were in their early twenties. The band started way back in 1979, when Chickoy Pura talked to guitarists Nitoy Adriano and Hely Umali, bassist Boy Matriano, drummer Flor Mendoza and harmonica player Gils Dauag to form a rock n’ roll band in Olongapo City.

In the early part of the 1980s, the group suffered a lot due to changing members, disbanding, and reunions - all left except for Chickoy Pura and Nitoy Adriano.

In 1988, the band had a grand reunion and the welcoming of their new bassist, Pino Fernandez. This was two years after the Marcos regime was brought down by the Filipino people. The band then felt that they have a social responsibility to fulfill --- to let the people know about their rights against any abuse and to inform them about what is really happening to society. To fulfill that responsibility, they wrote songs on social issues.

As years passed, 1994 became a fruitful year for the band. They made their first independent album under Backdoor Records which was recorded in one of their gigs. In 1997, they started their first major label album with Eraserheads’ Ely Buendia as producer under Star Records. It was in March 31, 1998 when they launched their first major, self-titled album through a show in ABS-CBN Channel 2 called "The Jerks Jam."

The NU107 Rock Awards 1998 for Best Album went to the band’s first album, while the 1998 Katha Music Awards named "Rage," one of the songs in the album, as the Best Rock Song of the Year.

The Jerks still have regular gigs at 70's Bistro.

3.) The Jerks - United States

A local punk rock band from Atlanta, Georgia. Known for their tongue-in-cheek lyrics and pop-punk upbeat and fast music.

4.) The Jerks - United Kingdom (70s)

A Yorkshire punk band best known for their single Get Your Woofing Dog Off Me!

5.) The Jerks - United Kingdom (80s/90s)

Oldham-based indie band active in the late 80s and early 90s, no releases of their own except self-released cassettes, tracks included on compilations include "Didn't Quite Make It" and "Waterskin." Changed singer and became Rubber Orange.
