About Idiotape

In 2008, 6 synthesizers and 1 drum set formed an electronic band IDIOTAPE to create synth-based rock music. An influential DJ in Korean underground club scene, DGURU, along with electronic music producer ZEZE and a well-known power drummer with years of experience in various metal and punk bands, DR, complete the band.

Positioned somewhere between electronic, techno, rock, and heavy metal, IDIOTAPE’s unique musical identity is a harmonious blend of influences the members received in their childhood. Also, the sentiments influenced by 60’s and 70’s Korean rock music add to the melody lines, differentiating IDIOTAPE’s music from the rest. Only using synthesizers, rather than a guitar, is unique of this team. Nonetheless, IDIOTAPE is recognized as “an electronic band that is more band-like than a typical rock band.”

Over the years, IDIOTAPE has become one of the most desired artists in music festivals across genres. With powerful yet danceable grooves, IDIOTAPE was chosen as the Korean headliner of Pentaport Rock Festival and Valley Rock festival. The band has also performed at Korea’s biggest electronic music festivals such as Ultra Music Festival and GlobalGathering Korea.

Going beyond the local scene, the band has toured across continents by performing at world-renowned music festivals such as Glastonbury, Exit Festival, SXSW, Paris Electronic Week, Fusion Festival, Paleo Festival, Trans Musicales, Future Music Festival Asia, and Summer Sonic. Further, they were the support act of Jason Mraz, Phoenix, and Squarepusher.

IDIOTAPE made its debut through ‘0805’ EP in 2010, which was followed by a full album '11111101' in 2011, 'Tours' in 2014, and a remix album ‘Tours The Remixes.’ Later in 2016, they released ‘RE,’ which was highly praised for reinterpreting Korean old and contemporary rock music to their style.

'111111101' won ‘Best Dance Electronic Album’ at the prestigious Korean Music Awards and ‘Tours’ was also nominated in the same category. The tracks were used in FIFA Online 3 of EA Sports and Korean cable channel TvN’s popular tv show ‘The Genius’ as a theme song, gaining fans from teens to 20s.

IDIOTAPE participated in KBS’ (Korea’s national public broadcaster) one-act drama ‘Last Puzzle’ as a music director. They were chosen as the Korean Creator by Intel & Vice Magazine’s The Creators Project, which led to collaborations and events with the world’s most innovative brands such as Adidas, Fred Perry, MINI, AUDI and Jeep.

Reinterpreting rock and electronic music to their color, IDIOTAPE may have its roots in Korea, but is not regarded K-Pop. Rather, they are considered to be creating a genre of their own. With plans for tours around Europe and North America as well as a new album release in 2017, IDIOTAPE will continue to build a strong name internationally.

“Seoul's Idiotape have been making waves internationally with their live mix of analog synthesizers and bombastic drumming. It's hard not to imagine a sea of people dancing to their forward- leaning energetic live electronic/EDM.”
SXSW.com

“If Cut Copy, Daft Punk, and Chromeo had a South Korean baby, they would beget the SXSW-bound, funkatastic, celebratory disco house trio Idiotape ...
The bespectacled crew has been getting audiences jumping manically on their feet in Korea for awhile, and now they’re prepping for global domination.”
– MTV Iggy

Trax Magazine request to Jean-Louis brossard his heart:
"To return to program this year, could you give us a few strokes of heart?" " in electronic music, there's IDIOTAPE a group South Korean. A frigging killing in live! A drummer and two guys on the keyboard: it's so clutch. I put them on the best spot of the festival, the Hall 9 OF 1 h45 to 2 h45.”
- Trax Magazine

We feel the influence of assumed Daft Punk, the room is packed, the audience sways. They even allow to resume " Sabotage " the Beastie Boys. Ovation for this group whose instrumental techno managed to give me fishing
- Trend Hustler

“(Idiotape’s) beats are tailor-made for both clubs and the mosh pit. Their success on the festival circuit suggests that there is plenty of demand for their sound at home and abroad.”
