About Nile St. James

Nile St. James is a singer/songwriter hailing from Limerick City. With heavy influences rooted in folk and soul music, Nile has found his own authentic space within the music industry combining the two genres to create unique and exciting hybrid.

Growing up binging to the records of soul powerhouses Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Sam Cooke, Nile has developed an emotional and versatile voice that can jump from a gravity-defying belted register to a pure and vulnerable falsetto that leaves an audience craving for more. These dynamics highlight the singers endless dedication to developing his vocal technique and musicianship, a focus which has resulted in mind-blowing performances from the young singer.

In his late teens, St. James begun to find solace in the works of Jeff Buckley, James Vincent McMorrow and Matt Corby. Along with nurturing a self-confessed adoration for the written word, St. James fueled his dormant determination and passion and set out to pursue his ambitions of breaking into the music industry. Surrounding himself with creative minds living in the vibrant city of Limerick, St. James began to hon his craft. Using Limerick as a central hub, Nile began to journey to nearby cities of Cork, Galway and Dublin to develop a following and sound.

Finding inspiration within the lyrics of Joni Mitchell and Stevie Nicks, St. James is an innovative and authentic songwriter. The artist writes frank and heartfelt lyrics that speak of the his personal experiences endured during a ‘first love’ relationship.

Along with his personal story-telling, Nile also uses music to aid in changing the world around him for the better. St. James writes songs of social injustice and a call for change. Using an art form as a means to express a message is high-priority for bohemian singer, this priority highlights his belief that revolutions where started by the artists of the times they had occurred, Nile frequently cites a quote Miss Nina Simone during his gigs;

“An artist's duty, as far as I'm concerned, is to reflect the times.”

Only a few months into gigging around Ireland and Nile St. James has already gathered a sturdy following. With an atmospheric and high-energy set (both acoustic and full band)
St. James has already supported well-known artists Gavin James, The Blizzards, Wyvern Lingo and Lisa Canny as well as being dubbed “A one to Watch” by Whelans and Spin1038.

Ending 2016 with a bang by selling out Dolans Warehouse, St. James has announced plans of a debut EP and single set to be released in 2017 along with a Irish tour. With music that can translate to both intimate and arena-like venues. St. James is set to make waves in the coming years.
