About Vanishing Shapes

Quickly evolved from a Conservatorium project, Vanishing Shapes fuses old sounds of traditional folk music with modern influences such as electronic dance, progressive rock and classical, uniquely traversing from large cinematic soundscapes to twisted dance tunes all on acoustic instruments.

Endearingly dubbed ‘fairy music’ during an early tour, their unique sound has found a home in some unexpected places, receiving strong support from Newcastle’s warehouse scenes as well as sharing the stage with diverse national and international acts such as Afenginn, The Crooked Fiddle Band and Asta. The band has maintained a busy schedule touring independently, releasing an EP and full length album and playing festivals including St Albans Folk Festival, Wollombi Music Festival and Regrowth Festival.

Live performances are highly energetic and a bit humorous whilst bouncing from being playful, harrowing and ethereal creating moments that appeal to urges of dance, crying and escaping to other dimensions.
