About Sunna Gunnlaugs

Icelandic jazz pianist Sunna Gunnlaugs grew up in Seltjarnarnes, Iceland close to Reykjavik where she studied organ and eventually found the music of Bill Evans and was hooked. She moved to the United States in 1993 where she studied jazz at William Paterson College in close proximity to New York City. After graduation she made her home in Brooklyn, NY with her husband (and drummer) Scott McLemore and became active on the jazz scene. In 2000 she released "Mindful" with Tony Malaby, Drew Gress and McLemore which was praised internationally and led to her touring Europe. She has since released 11 albums as a leader and repatriated to Iceland in 2005. Her latest work is with Finnish trumpet sensation Verneri Pohjola.
