About Moonloop

Moonloop was born in 2001 in Barcelona (Spain) and plays progressive Death Metal distinguished by powerful and technical guitar riffs, atmospheric landscapes, clean/growl vocals, and psychedelic lead guitar passages. The band line up is: Eric Baulenas (vocals, lead & rhythm guitars, synths), Juanjo Martín (rhythm guitar, background vocals), Raúl Payán (drums) and Vic Granell (bass).

Moonloop recorded their first demo in 2001, entitled "Things Can Change". After many concerts over the Barcelona area, they opened for Anathema in June 2004 at Razzmatazz 2 (Barcelona), showing that Moonloop is a multi faceted band with growing abilities so early in their career . In late 2005, they recorded their second demo, entitled "Release from Duality", which received a roaring response from the underground media. After playing at the Sant Climent extreme metal festival in 2006, they opened for Leaves’ Eyes in Barcelona, and Moonloop's name started to rise up as one of the most respected bands in the Spanish extreme metal scene.

The process of recording a third demo began in January 2007. The new songs were based on Mother Earth and also personal experiences. That year the band played at three festivals: Riells Death Metal Fest, Burning Hell Fest and Move Your Fucking Brain. "True Nature Revealed" received critical acclaim in both local radio, press and internet specialised media. From 2007 to 2010, Moonloop played many shows in their native country as a support act for bands like Cynic, Saturnus, Isole, Process of guilt, Vórtice, Vidres a la Sang, Ataraxie, Draconian, Ktulu, Persefone, Nami, Kathaarsys or Finntroll.

Between 2009 to 2010 Moonloop demoed songs that ended on the debut album, titled “Deeply from the Earth”. In 2011 their new album was finally mixed at The Room studios by Gorka Dresbaj and mastered at Mastering Room AB (Sweden) by Goran Finnberg (Meshuggah, Opeth). "Deeply from the Earth" was based again on Mother Earth, as well as on personal life experiences. Moonloop signed with Listenable records (Gojira, Textures, Immolation, Crisix, Aborted, etc..), and their new album was released on May 2012 worldwide. Since the release date, the album received very good response in Europe and The States, and the band began to receive more attention from progressive rock/metal fans and also extreme metal followers. Moonloop reviews and interviews were featured on Terrorizer magazine (UK), Zero Tolerance magazine (UK), Metallian magazine (France), This is Rock magazine (Spain), Legacy magazine (Germany), Rock tribune magazine (Belgium), Popular 1 (Spain), Rock Hard (Italy), Rockzone (Spain), and many other magazines & webzines.

Between 2012 and 2013 the band played some shows in Spain presenting "Deeply from the Earth", and did one gig at Dark Mental Festival in Copenhague (Denmark), where they shared the stage with Taake and Iniquity. In 2014 the band began the recording process for their second album, and they had the big honour to open for Gojira in July 15th at Razzmatazz (Barcelona). On 2016, Moonloop shared the stage with Quaoar at BeProg Festival pre-party in Barcelona, and also played at Progstureo Festival in Madrid, both good examples of progressive music festivals in Spain.

The new album, titled “Devocean”, was released through Listenable records on March 24th 2017 on digipack and also on blue vinyl limited edition, and also in Japan through Chaos Reigns records with two acoustic bonus tracks. The album, produced by the band and engineered, mixed, and mastered by David Querol, has eight songs with a darker and more organic touch compared to their previous album. Full of progressive passages, and acoustic parts, it’s the band’s best work to date. The lyrics are inspired by nature, geology, oceans, ecology, and also personal experiences. "Devocean" is receiving great reviews around the world since it was released (Metal Hammer; La Heavy, Legacy, Zero Tolerance, Metallian, etc.). Moonloop is adding new tour dates for 2017.
