Honeybabe

Founded in 2013 inside a suburban basement of Metro Detroit, Honeybabe was formed by Michael La Bella, Matthew McBrien, Austin Keith, Drew Bartosik and Danny Despard. With the premature album of Creatures of Circumstance (2014), their music has certainly progressed with the newest EP Velvet Glum (2016) which takes on a more vibrant, eclectic sounding groove. Inspirations for each member comes from a swelling spectrum of genres and musicians, hence establishing a genre like pyschrockjazzbeachpunk is not just a gag, but an approximate definition. Music journalist Jeff Milo notes that, "despite their youth, the ensemble's shown a strong sense for psychedelicized funk-pop journeys and a measuredly strange-ified, distortion-stormed indie-rock." Yet still, they can’t necessarily define nor contain themselves, so they let the audience enjoy and interpret what they hear on recordings or at live shows. Primarily playing shows in and around the Detroit area such as The Loving Touch, The Old Miami, and the Majestic Café, 2017 saw the bands first tour out east, playing New York, Philadelphia and Providence. With an upcoming full-length album in the works and after an era of certain stagnation, Honeybabe is moving forward, aspiring to cover as much musical ground as humanly possible. Psychrockjazzpunk.
