About Letters from the Dead

Letters from the Dead was formed in 2010 by Bob Simpson and Jim Lopeman. They formed in order to play the type of music they like while putting their own spin on it. They are quoted as saying "Love us or Hate us, We're not going anywhere any time soon!" They are disappointed in the direction of music nowadays. They want to ignite a feeling like that from the 90's Grunge movement. Bob Simpson was born on 4/1/1983 in Peoria IL. He started playing guitar at the age of 11 and got his first guitar for his 12th birthday. Bob started doing live performances at the age of 15. He even made his own guitar in HS Shop class at the age of 17! He has had no formal training, but is completely self taught. Bob learned to play mostly by natural talent and watching Videos of Nirvana Live or by reading Guitar World Magazine. Born into a music loving family, he has been singing for as long as he could talk. His mother has been heard to tell the story of Bob's first Sentence - The chorus line lyrics of Hair of the Dog by Nazareth. Bob graduated from Deer Creek - Mackinaw High School (Mackinaw IL) in 2002, since then music is his whole life. Jarod Carrasca was born on October 22, 1983 in Kewanee IL. He started having is first dabbles in music in 5th grade originally playing brass instruments and eventually being the solo lead trumpet that won Class 1A title at state. He started playing bass at the age of 15 with his friend Jake Tumbleson. At the age of 17 he joined his first band Pergatory and later left at the age of 20. Soon after, he attended the Institute of Art - Schaumburg studying 3D Animation and Media Arts. His love for bass guitar soon came out again, he started writing his own bass parts for his animations to accompany them. Once he graduated he moved back home closer to his family in Peoria, IL and started what he was to call his "Trial by Fire". During this period he went from band to band looking for the right sound and the right feel until he came across Letters From The Dead. The rest is history... Inspired by: Tool, A Perfect Circle, Opeth. We are an original rock band. We are also known to play 90's covers. Our originals reflect the great aspects of 90's grunge with a hint of melodic tone.
