About Steve Sternberg

Tallahasee, Florida pianist and composer Steve Sternberg will capture you with his energetic, playful and moving piano music. He plays the old obscure covers and his contemporary originals. You'll hear boogie-woogie from the 20'and 30's and ragtime, as well as original blues, pop and classical. In 2002 Sternberg won a Best New Florida Song award with his "Apalachicola Blues." As a solo artist Steve Sternberg has been entertaining audiences from ages 3 to 103 throughout Florida since 1989. He is loved for his versatility and for his upbeat, informative rapport with his listeners. By popular demand Steve has been a regular performer at the Florida Folk Festival, the nation’s largest and oldest folk fest, for eight years. In the past few years Sternberg has performed in house concerts in Tallahassee, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Tampa, Winter Haven and Boca Raton.
The old and the new, the down 'n dirty and the sublime ...that's Steve Sternberg's eclectic blend of piano music. He will capture your musical heart and soul with his energetic, playful and moving songs. The release of his 3rd CD Shout for Joy establishes Sternberg as a piano player with power and sensitivity, as a songwriter with wit, charm and depth of the soul. Sternberg entertains audiences throughout Florida with his wide range of piano stylings done with flair. He’ll play a rollicking Pete Johnson or Albert Ammons boogie-woogie from the 1930’s, an original contemporary blues, a Joplin rag, or an evocative, serene neo-classical original.

As a solo artist Steve Sternberg has been entertaining audiences from ages 3 to 103 throughout Florida since 1989. He is loved for his versatility and for his upbeat, informative rapport with his listeners. In 1990 Steve was a recording artist for Mr. Wonderful Records out of Louisville, KY for his compositions "Irap" and "Cool Teacher". By popular demand Steve has been a regular performer for eight years at the Florida Folk Festival, the nation's largest and oldest folk fest. He has also performed in other festivals, events, clubs and at private parties thoughout the country both as a soloist and as a member of pop, rock, blues, latin and jazz bands. Steve's first CD, Honky Tonk Soulstice was released in 1997. Three of the CD's twelve songs are originals.

In 2002 Sternberg won an award in the statewide Will Mclean Foundation's Best New Florida Song Contest for "Apalachicola Blues". That was released then on his 2nd CD of the same name. The song depicts the laid-back, rural fishing-village/tourist attraction Apalachicola on the Florida Gulf coast. That song and his "Forgotten Coast Blues" are part of the soundtrack for the documentary "Apalachicola, Our Town", which aired on WFSU-TV in 2004 in the Tallahassee/Florida panhandle area. On WFSU's local music series "Outloud" Sternberg and singer Mollie Lynne get regular airings as one of the most popular shows. Steve's 3rd CD, Shout for Joy, was released in September of 2005. It contains five boogie-woogies and eight original tunes including a re-release of "Apalachicola Blues" and"Forgotten Coast Blues". It shows a maturity in styling, songwriting and arranging. It is his masterpiece to date.

Steve is a music educator, having performed in residencies in 14 Florida school districts. He teaches private lessons in Tallahassee. Sternberg performs at retirement homes in Tallahassee and throughout Florida. He has a regular touring schedule on the retirement home circuit throughout Florida.
