About Fernando

There's more then 1 artist/Band called Fernando.

1. Argentine singer-songwriter Fernando Viciconte( www.fernandoviciconte.com)started his musical career in Los Angeles in 1988 by forming the rock band Monkey Paw. Monkey Paw soon became one the most popular bands on the LA circuit. He moved to Portland, Oregon in 1994 and helped create Cravedog Records with founding owner Todd Crosby. Cravedog Records was one of Portland's first nationally recognized labels along with the now defunct Cavity Search. In 1996 Fernando recorded and released the dark folk album "Season in Hell"(out of print). Accompanied by Dan Eccles on guitar( Richmond Fontaine) and Jillian Weisneck(Gern Blanston) on Cello, fernando and co. managed to create a claustrophic world that still bleeds with every listen. In 1997 Fernando released his country-blues opus "Widows" which featured new members Clayton Jones on drums, Joe Chiusano on bass, and Merilee Horde on Fiddle. This album is very reminiscent of John Prine's ultra raw masterpiece "Pink Cadillac". Fernando then befriended LA producer/multi-instrumentalist Luther Russell(Freewheelers)and they soon released "Pacoima" in the summer of 1998. This all-spanish rock album combined Tex-mex, Garage, punk and R&B to form one of the most original albums to ever come out of Portland. This lo-fi gem was recorded entirely in a basement on a four track cassette tape for a total cost of 30 dollars. The Willamette Week(one of Portland's leading papers) proceeded to call this album Portland's first significant all spanish rock album". In 1999 Fernando again teamed up with producer Luther Russell to record Old Man Motel. A straight forward rock n roll album that recalls Neil Young and Crazy Horse one second and The Beatles the next. This album was featured by Magnet Magazines as one of 199p's "undiscovered Treasures". 2001 found Fernando leaving Cravedog Records to form his own imprint Domingo Records and releasing his fifth album "Dreams of the Sun and Sky". This dream pop album was co-produced by his good friend Mike Coykendall(Old Joe Clarks, M. Ward)and was picked as one of the top ten albums released in 2001 by the Oregonian and was Fernando was called by Bob Boilen of NPR a "Great unknown". Fernando's most recent release is "Enter to Exit" and is Fernando's most well Received record to date. Billboard Magazine has called it "One of the most intriquing sounds of the past 20 years of new rock" and Magnet Magazine named Fernando one of the "Top ten new artist of 2007".
