About Meet Me In The Matinee

Meet Me in the Matinee is a three piece Alternative Rock band from rural Logan, West Virginia. Formed in 2008, by vocalist and lead guitarist Caleb Luther and drummer Nathan Bush, Meet Me in the Matinee started on their musical journey to bring alternative-indie rock to their area. After adopting their own styles from their musical inspirations and putting them together, they made their own independent style different from other bands of their area. After releasing a rough demo in January 2009 called “Sounds Like Construction,” Meet Me in the Matinee or “MMITM” for short, started to expand to more than just guitars and drums. In March 2009, MMITM added more layers in the form of a rhythm guitar player named Chris Workman. In the fall of 2009, Meet Me in the Matinee went back to the studio to record their second demo entitled “The Common Fool.” After this the band embarked on local promotional shows with Chris Workman on bass to support the release of these two demos. November of 2009 saw Meet Me in the Matinee add the last layer to their alternative-indie rock machine in the form of permanent bass guitar player and keyboardist Josh Brown. After the inclusion of keyboards, the band embarked on another series of local and regional promotions in support of their demos. September 2010, the band went back to the studio to record their first professional EP entitled simply, “Meet Me in the Matinee.” This EP featured many fan favorite tracks and included the hit, “Evilness,” which became a staple and played at every Meet Me in the Matinee show until retired in 2012. The EP was met with critical acclaim from fans and peers alike. Starting 2011 off with a new sense of direction in terms of playing. Digging deeper into his true Indie roots. Meet Me in the Matinee lead song writer, Caleb Luther, started writing darker toned music and lyrics, thus giving the band a new breath of life away from it’s pop-rock sounding EP. This started the creating process which would become their first full length studio album. Entering “Liquid Tone Studios” with producer Brandon Ferguson, they spent the majority of the year recording seventeen new tracks which would become “Real or Fantasy.” A concept album with the first eight tracks, “Real,” consisting of “radio-friendly rock” and the nine remaining tracks, “Fantasy,” composing of more true “experimental and progressive” sound. The album, released January 2012, was the first to be made available to more than just the local surrounding areas via digital distribution and has helped to make more fans across the world. The album was met with critical acclaim from reviewers such as “Loud-Stuff.com” which called said, “…every track grabs your attention with punchy tunes, meaningful riffs accompanied by persistent drum beats…” The album sold hundreds of copies just by word of mouth alone. The start of 2012 saw the band broaden their audience to major east coast cities, playing such cities as Nashville, Pittsburgh, among many others. In January, as a tribute to the local Huntington scene that accepted MMITM as a staple of live music in the area, they were honored in being the last live band to play at the very popular “Shamrock’s Irish Pub” in Huntington, WV. Here they recorded their first live recording entitled “Live! @ Shamrocks!” Released in August 2012 as a DVD and digital download it is a front row look not only at a MMITM show, but also a inside look at the history of the band, it’s influences, and where they want to go as a band. Over the next couple of years, MMITM continued to progress, leaving Real or Fantasy behind, and creating their latest album entitled, "Beauty in Ordinary Things." Released in October 2014. the album is essentially a harder/edgier sound than their past offerings. It is their most personal album to date dealing with personal demons of each member, their own musical retrospect, and dealing with each other individually. 2015, saw the release of the "Lucid Dreams One" EP. The band now facing their tenth year playing their music wants to continue to spread the word of their music to anyone willing to listen. Looking forward into the future, the band hopes that they continue to succeed in both musical and professional endeavors. No matter how you perceive them, music is about two things to MMITM, connecting with their listeners, and continuing to stay true to the constantly evolving Meet Me in the Matinee sound.
