About Toney Rocks
Toney Rocks is an artist caught up in the vortex of erratic cross-country tours, using a pen to dig for a not-so self-evident truth, chasing an unheard sound and rubbing a match against a brick wall looking for a spark. There doesn't seem to be another way for him. He's crossed the great barrier into the realms of a chaotic maelstrom where his obsession has taken over all reason. Ask him what his style or genre is and Toney Rocks will probably say, “#$%! I dunno… you tell me. You just gotta listen to it”.
He approaches sound and story like exploring uncharted territory versus existing in the safe realms of an established dogma. The way he layers his smooth dark voice over haunting psychedelic live loops guided by deeply introspective lyrics, it's evident that he doesn't hear it like anyone else; nor does he want to. After seeing Toney Rocks official showcase at the 2019 CDbaby DYI Musicians Conference, NPR's Bob Boilen offered that, Toney Rocks has “a wonderfully unique voice…”.
Post pandemic, Toney Rocks is geared up to get back to the road picking up where he left off. With the much anticipated changing tides, Rocks is scheduled to release, 02.24.20, the latest addition to his sonic catalog featuring two new songs "Lies We Tell" and "While".
As frustrating as the experience was, the misfortune of the relationship's demise gave way to a wealth of new deeply interpersonal songs and a redefined commitment to a lifestyle; not just a career path. Over the past several months, Toney Rocks has been chipping away a scheme to tour relentlessly and deliver his unapologetic truth through music, writing, and social commentary. "I'm really coming into myself as an artist now. It's something I believe can't be separated. For me, it's all or nothing. After releasing DRIFTING, I saw exactly what the last five or six years had been building up too. I was finally telling my truth and not playing to what I thought people wanted to hear and see.", Rocks says about his growth as an artist.
Post pandemic, Toney Rocks is geared up to get back to the road picking up where he left off. His latest release, 02.24.20, is out now featuring "Lies We Tell" and "While" serving as a sort of 'tomorrows western'. The albums was produced and performed in its entirety by Toney Rocks with the help of engineer/mixer, Kenny Riley. The two recorded the album over the corse of two and a half days at Rio Grande Studios in Albuquerque, NM.
