About Douse

Perhaps the most interesting work comes when bands allow themselves to be free from genre constraints; find their own form of navigation, unearth new and inventive ways of stirring the emotions of those lucky enough to find themselves along for the ride. Vancouver BC’s Art Rock outfit, Douse, are one such band. Alea Clark and Patrick Farrugia masterfully combine subtle yet surprisingly complex ambient moments of restraint with powerful acts of aggression. As described by CBC Music Vancouver, Douse creates a “a lush, atmospheric sound that delves into darkness, but also finds glimmers of light.” Immersing the listener in a world slightly on the precipice of “Indie Rock”, Douse truly tips the scales and carves out a space all of their own persuasion.

From the release of their 2016 debut studio album, “The Light in You Has Left”, which received international acclaim (Independent Music News, UK), to present day where you will find the band working on their highly anticipated follow up album, Douse has made a significant impact on the North American Indie/Art Rock Scene. Known for an energetic and powerful live show, the group is consistently embarking on cross Canada or west coast (US) tours, or finding themselves on notable festival lineups such as Treefort Festival, Timber Music Fest, Ponderosa Festival, Khatsahlano Festival and more; they have also enjoyed the privilege of opening for Amy Shark, Cub Sport, and recently Owen Pallett at Vancouver’s Westward Festival 2019.

Douse does not shy away from anything intimate or uncomfortable, and that is certainly to be expected on their forthcoming record. While exploring moody, cavernous landscapes, new-wave inspired hooks and sparkling guitar lines, Clark’s distinct, buoyant vocal guides us through internal monologues of healing from trauma, navigating identity struggles and reclaiming oneself.
Douse is the sound of growing and flourishing; they are never afraid to address the hardest parts of being alive, but also celebrate overcoming challenges and learning how to be strong in the face of adversity.
