About Red Giant

There are two Red Giants active currently.

Back in the late summer of 1990, Damien Perry, Brian Skinner, Chris Gorman, and I formed a rock band and named it Red Giant. We shared a connection through a love of classic punk, rock, and metal bands- like AC/DC, Motorhead, The MC5, Black Sabbath, and The Stooges. We worked crazy jobs at gas stations and demolition companies to buy some Les Pauls and some Marshall Stacks and by the time we all graduated high school we were ready to record our noise.

In 1995, Red Giant released Psychoblaster and the Misuse of Power, cementing our footprint on the emerging stoner rock scene. As years unfolded, we shared stages with many of our favorite bands...Mule, Voivod, Hawkwind, Queens of the Stone Age, Fu Manchu, Nebula, and Hermano to name just a handful.

In 1998, we released our second CD, Ultramagnetic Glowing Sound on New York's Tee Pee Records which was also home to cool bands like The Atomic Bitchwax, and High on Fire. Derek Hess created the artwork for the CD, keeping to the band's theme of the cosmic welder. This was around the time we started traveling more, playing showcases at The Continental and CBGB's in New York City.

Then in 2004 we released Devil Child Blues on Small Stone Records out of Detroit Michigan- home to some of our favorite bands like Honky, Valis, and Dixie Witch. This lead to several tours of the U.S. including a couple of trips down to Austin Texas for South by Southwest. We even appeared in a few commercials on MTV2. We continued rocking stages with great bands like Clutch, Mushroomhead, and Monster Magnet; I was even asked to sing a set with Monster Magnet when Dave Wyndorf's throat hurt during a stop in Cleveland. Hard living and personal tensions lead to some brutal fist fights on stage between band members eventually causing us to break up in 2006.

With the addition of drummer Eric Matthews (ex- Propain, Spudmonsters) to the line up, they're back on the horse and recording their next CD for Small Stone. It's some brutal speed rock and it's gonna hit you hard with it.

The second Red Giant hails from Chico, Ca. And is comprised of Adam West, Bee Arthur, the scene from True Romance where Christohper Walken tortures Dennis Hopper, and the soundtrack to Grosse Point Blank. Carson Daly can't fuck with the Red Giant.
