IndieBlender recently said of BLAKDENIM, “[they] are the complete package. If you’re looking for passionate lyrics, infectious rhythms, expertly layered instrumentals, or simply something to move your feet to, this is a band you have to check out.” This is one indication that BLAKDENIM is realizing exactly what they set out to achieve when they came together in an Ottawa, ON basement in late 2012.

BLAKDENIM is a vanguard live hip-hop act that infuses hip-hop, funk, rock and soul with lyrical content that ranges from the serious to the absurd, the tone from sweet to heavy, all connected by head-nodding melodies. The line- up includes drums, bass guitar, piano, trumpet, sousaphone, trombone, cello, flute, female vocalist and an emcee.

The band has created serious buzz from live appearances at venues big and small including Ottawa Bluesfest (twice), Quebec City’s Festival d’été, and winning third place finish at Indie Week Canada. The band is currently preparing material, set to be released in May 2016, to follow-up their debut EP “Vanguard(en)”, which has received attention from both commercial and college radio including appearances at the top of hip-hop and mainstream charts.
