About Alexander Taras De Sina

Praised for his elegant and philosophical aesthetic, pianist Alexander Taras De Sina holds a unique place in the rising generation of concert artists, critically acclaimed as “a maestro of original interpretation…a captivating performance” (Holos Ukrayiny).

Born in New York and influenced by the musical diversity of his hometown, Alexander began his piano studies at the age of five. His first concert in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall followed at the age of seven. At the age of eleven he was admitted to the pre-college of the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Peter Vinograde. After graduating from the prestigious LaGuardia High School, he studied philosophy, linguistics and French literature at the University of Chicago, as well as at the Sorbonne, where he was specially invited to present an original conference as a guest lecturer, entitled « Art poétique: une analyse sémiotique de la Volonté chez Verlaine ».

Mr. De Sina is the recipient of prizes in numerous international piano competitions, including: The Concorso di Città di Asti, First Prize at the National Federation of Music Clubs of America, The Harvey Gaul Award, The Lucy Millard Piano Award, and The Dianne Flagello Scholarship.

Highlights of his career thus far include a concert tour of Japan at the age of fifteen in a piano trio with the violinist Ryu Goto, of which NHK Television produced a documentary film; a performance of all 24 Etudes of Chopin at the Maryinsky Park in Kyiv during the 200th anniversary year of 2010, as well as a performance with Maestro Dean Whiteside of the 1st Piano Concerto of Brahms in Kharkiv in 2013.

He has lived for two years in Vienna, where he performs regularly, including at the Ehrbarsaal, already at the Musikverein, at the Barocksaal of the Altes Rathaus, and at the Gesellschaft für Musiktheater, where he is a member. He has also appeared as an actor, including in a reading of James Joyce's "Ulysses" at the RadioKulturhaus in a production supported by the Office of the President of Austria.

In addition to his career as a soloist, Mr. De Sina specialises in opera and song accompaniment. At the age of sixteen he began the study of score reading with Thomas Lausmann in New York, which led to his appointment to an internship at the Vienna State Opera. He has dedicated himself particularly to French mélodie, which he has refined under the mentorship of Dalton Baldwin and at the International Summer Academy of Nice, a city with which he maintains a close musical relationship, and to which he returns every summer to cultivate artistic inspiration.

Mr. De Sina holds dual American and British citizenship. He is of Ukrainian heritage on his mother’s side and Italian on his father’s. He studies with Stephan Möller.
